He hires good people and lets them do their job? Any evidence of that yet? He’s been a head coach for 4 months.
I would slow down on the Elko comparisons. Pete would be very lucky to have half the success Elko has had so far
You have already made up your mind 4 months in that he is a drunk and an idiot when he has 2 playoff wins as HC. Your HC had to be put in rehab for coke but you seem to not care about that.
I'd bet a lot that you have a DUI on your record as well. Pete is a south Louisiana boy like a ton of people on this site.

Another thread about Ole Miss by a LSU fan.

And Golding has been out of the rehab for the same amount of time!

Yes, Pete has won 2 playoff games but that argument is ridiculously lazy because it lacks context. I will give Pete credit for righting the ship and not letting the outside noise distract that locker room but let’s not act like he built that team and got them there.
Also, one of those wins was against Tulane.

The Bama/OM circle jerk continues!

He built the defense. Built the defense that led the nation in scoring defense in 24. The O line coach who built the O line is still there. The offensive coach that handled the day to day on the offensive side is still there. The OC is from the Briles/Kiffin Tree and was sought after by multiple SEC programs. He was here for 2 years when the foundation was being built. A lot of the program is still in tact. A lot of what made Lane great here was the system around him by the university and staff. That almost completely is still in place.
Yall read Pete but think it is Luke and it is absolutely not anywhere close to the same thing.

The 2025 Ole Miss defense was fairly mediocre. The 2024 unit was elite.

Maybe but he's very inexperienced.

All of this remains to be seen.

Tulane has shut out LSU 13 times. The worst was 46-0 in Tiger Stadium.

The 2024 front 4 was elite. The secondary was atrocious.
The 2025 unit was more solid across the entire unit.

Maybe, but it was fairly mediocre across the board.
I believe they finished in like the high 40's in FEI where 2024 was top 5 in the country.

He was only given the HC job due to politics.
There weren't many alternatives at the time that moved the needle. We were going to hire Dave Doeren instead which would've been a better hire but not sure Lane happens then.

The only positive thing he did for us was getting fired

I will criticize Lane for not making the playoffs in 24’. No reason that OM roster should’ve lost 3 regular season games. Especially to the teams they lost them too

Strange question….why do you care?

We hired him and decided to pay him $3 million+ when he would've taken the job for $1.5 mil a year.
I made a joke to a buddy at the time they they probably came to Matt at the end of the coaching search and said, "Matt, it's going to be you and it's going to be 3 million dollars a year." And Matt responded with, "Well, if I take out a second mortgage and my brothers help out I can probably come up with the money."

Why didn’t a sun belt school come knocking Pete Goldings doors down then if he’s so much better?
He would have had to take a pay cut by a lot.
Look, Matt Luke was the worst coach we've had since Sloan. He had no business ever being hired and to be honest, he should have been fired prior to that anyway because every OL he coached was terrible. Bjork fricked us with that lazy arse hire of convenience.
Pete is nothing like Matt. First off, he's far more qualified and actually knows how to coach football. I'm pretty excited about him. The last guy was too faggy.

Is this you right before Lane left?

Just for the record, I think Golding would end up the same way. He's a great coordinator but I can't ever see him as being a good head coach. I could be wrong.

If we had to have an interim, it's going to be Golding or maybe even Joe Judge (former NY Giants HC).
I want neither one of these guys as our next HC though.

Luke was never intended to be the head coach. He was a sacrificial lamb to put distance between the shitstom Freeze created and the real coach they wanted. Bjork inserted Luke to play the “one of us” card to boosters and ticket holders until the air cleared.
Pete is the guy. Ole Miss fans tasted what a quality program feels like. And it’s addictive. The bar has been raised.

At this point you have to give Golding the benefit of the doubt as a head coach.
I don't think he's a great coordinator, but he may be more suited as a HC based on what he's done.
I would personally choose Luke if I needed an assistant coach. But right now I'd take Golding as head man. They're two different jobs.

Yes, but I have corrected my thinking.
