It was a quiet ride home from that one.

2006 Hogs would have beat any of the Petrino teams. They had such a great defensive line. Dominated a very good Auburn team and beat the piss out of a pretty good Tennessee team

No they were a one-trick pony. 2010 Arkansas was much better

Jones and Jackson were competing for the job in the spring of 02. I remember Jackson had a cannon for an arm. I don't remember all the details but he transferred not long after the spring game was over. That is the problem with Nutt, he refused to develop any quarterbacks.

Just think if he did, Jackson at QB and Jones at WR.

Mac Jones would’ve never made it to the CFP with Bama’s green defense.

If he would have left Mitch Mustain alone then that 06 team would have won out and won the SEC.

He held the record for most rushing yards by an SEC QB until Tebow. He carried the team on his back. He had no help and so I didn't expect his numbers to be high level.

The 2006 team had first rounders on both sides of the ball. Petrino had good teams but I have to give it to the 06 team as they had a better defense and running game.

We lost the opener because the team was still scared from the game from a year before. We had no quarterback, McFadden was hurt and Felix Jones fumbled I believe three times which led to easy scores. It was a perfect storm for a blowout.

Jones measured 6 6, 240 at the combine. He ran a 4.37 at the combine.

He would have been Cam in the Gus style offense or Tebow in Urban’s offense. He had more raw talent than both. (Cam measured 6 5, 248 and ran a 4.57; and Tebow measured 6 3, 236, 4.72 at their combines). He had a ton of talent and a poor system.

The 330 pound tight end was Jason Peters.

Jones was fast, but he was a strider. Not so sure he had the quicks to be as effective running the option.

I can see why you would think that, but MJ was deceiving. You always thought he was about to get tackled, but it wouldn't happen. I mean, almost every play would breakdown and result in MJ scrambling to not lose yardage, but he'd turn it into a nice gain. Some of that may have been on MJ, idk, but it was pretty typical for all Nutt offenses.

Btw, I can honestly say that I always wanted Tarvaris Jackson to start, but it got tough to argue that after MJ began tearing it up. Chances are that Jackson would have also struggled in Butt's offense and he didn't have MJ's scrambling ability.

In 2002, while we were still trying to figure that out...Fred Talley showed up too...Ran all over us. Terrible game to sit thru

Hard to believe now that Nutt actually was 5-5 against Auburn, 4-6 against LSU and 5-5 against Alabama. That’s pretty good all things considered.

His problem was always that he would beat one of those and then lose to a Vanderbilt or Kentucky. Did a great job against Mississippi State too though.

Miss st. was terrible in the early to mid 2000s. Nutt beat them eight years in a row.

When you are mediocre and most of your SEC competition is mediocre then expect to have some success.

He lost those games because he was lazy and was a terrible game manager.

Yep, the SEC was a very different creature back then. I yearn for the days.

Seems to me that Houston Nutt whatever his shortcomings actually won SEC games. Seems like he looks better every year.
