You can only take a guy at his word, and until he actually leaves I'll continue to believe what he said...

the fact is, most people don't really know Malzahn. You don't know what motivates him. You don't know if he's happy in Auburn or wants to leave ASAP. Anything at this point is speculation.

With that being said, all we have is the man's word PERIOD.

UL is about as big time that a guy who has only been OC of a BCS team for 2 years could/should get

This. He has only been a college coach for 4+ years. It's not like Notre Dame, FSU, Penn State, Michigan, etc are going to be breaking down the door of a guy with a 1 page resume'.

He still has yet to run his offense fully, we don't have the personel to run it at the pace he wants to run it. He said it will likely be 2 more recruiting classes to get the players and experience to run it, the goal he wants right now is 80+ snaps per game when it is at full speed he wants 90+.

Oh goodie, goodie, gumdrops. PAC 10 football in Alabama.

Ok, so y'all run 80+ plays a game. How many will the other team run?? 30? 40? In order for your offense to run 80+ plays, your D will need to get a whole of 3 and outs.

“I’m flattered if my name gets thrown around, I guess,” Malzahn said. “But I’m extremely happy here. We’ve got big goals, big dreams here. I’m committed to that. That’s the only thing on my mind.”

LOL. What the hell did you expect him to say? What he is really thinking? If you think he is going to say what he is really thinking you are foolish. Here is more in line with what he and other assistant coaches believe when mentioned for a head coaching job.

I'm happy here at Auburn but the possibility of knocking down $1 million plus as a head coach somewhere is very appealing. Regardless of how well I like my Auburn job (yes, my coaching roots run deep at Auburn. What is it now, one year?) I have to look out for what's best for my family. So yes, anytime a decent head coaching job opens up and my name is mentioned I have to listen and will accept if I get the right offer. Don't kid yourself and who could blame him for leaving for a HC job?

Who knows about what jobs are going to open up in the very near future? It's a domino effect. What about Kevin Sumlin at Houston? As well as he has done he might get an offer from a better school and there are plenty more like him. Gus would do very well in Houston as he continues to build his resume.

Some people on here really don't have a clue. I mean they say he is waiting on a major job. But the facts are programs don't hire coordinators for major jobs unless they are winning National Championships. I mean look around. You have to go somewhere smaller and prove yourself as a head coach.

The only coordinators being really mentioned in big jobs are Muschamp, Venable, Strong. Those come from top programs and all have put major time in. Malzhan isn't going to get a offer at a major school unless he proves his worth as a head coach at some place like Memphis. The only way he would is to stay at Auburn and for Auburn to be a top 5 team for 5 or 6 years. Which isn't going to happen. I mean come on. This guy has no ties to Auburn. He wants to be a head coach or an NFL Coordinator. And if Fred Smith wants him. He will be at Memphis.

Memphis would be a good fit for Malzhan. He is from Springdale Ark. Plus Memphis needs to put people in the seats. His offense would do that. I think he will be one of the top two or three people on Memphis list....

I'm not saying he leaves for Memphis but he will not say he is leaving until it is final. he will do his best not to hurt AU recruiting.

YOu can get more snaps by forcing 3 and outs.......or running your offense at a pace that allows 1-2 more possessions per game. We've already run 80+ at times this season this is not out of reach.

Memphis will not get a major OC or big name coach to be their HC that program just needs to face facts it needs a lot of cash invested in facilities over the next 5-10 years then try to get a head coach.

Very doubtful, I'm refering to VA or some other big name program. TA&M is another program but it won't come open for another year.

You also managed only 64 vs. Arkansas to Arkansas' 84.

See, I can plug in numbers too...

I agree. People must remember that he has not been on the bigtime scene for very long. Moving into a head coach position too soon could be a disaster for CGM. He needs more time as an assistant in my opinion and he is in a great place right now. He just got the best RB in the country and he would be wise to stay at Auburn long enough to actually do something and then his stock will go through the roof.

Not only that, but with the ESPN/SEC contract he will be getting national exposure week after week. I don't see him making a lateral move to OC anywhere - he will only move on to a HC position.

If the goal is to one day run a bigtime program, which would you do? Take over as HC of a program like Memphis (very low tv exposure) or Louisville (moderate tv exposure) or stay as OC where you are going to be on national tv more often than not where not only do potential future bosses get to see you, but tons of potential future recruits?

There will be plenty of good jobs open up. After Kelly leaves Cincinnati, it will be open. Harbaugh might leave Stanford for a better gig, etc.

If Gus can build Auburn into an offensive powerhouse his stock as an OC and future HC goes through the roof. I don't see us having him too long but I do expect to keep him at least two years I've heard 3 years is a lock but I'll wait and see on that one.
