Donations would certainly be an unusual method of paying for a building on a college campus. Shame on you LSU. Maybe if we’re lucky enough, we can be like Bama and buy a building back from a donor that leans more left than they find tolerable.

LINK for the Bama fans that can read.

Unfortunately this further proves the point against LSU.

This is a sword that cuts 2 ways. 1st that Alabama is in a financial position to even give back a donation...an enviable move from LSU's perspective.

2nd, Alabama is in such great financial position that it wouldn't allow a donor to run things... Something I bet LSU doesn't have the luxury of.

Also, to the point of your link. It wasn't about politics as the donor was claiming, he tried to control the school and made demands on administrative decisions.
After he denied it, Alabama released his e-mails, exposing him. He shut up quickly after that.
He also gave a few interviews that showed him to be a whack-job. Unfortunately for LSU, they can't afford to get rid of THEIR whack-jobs.

Just more leaky roofs in LSU's future.

I guess they didn't see that there's literally already a multi-million dollar renovation going on right now.

Football basically funds the entire university by itself. That’s why this us vs them thing the academic department is trying to pull is so mind boggling to me. Louisiana’s general failure with money and education is why I won’t be attending LSU or any Louisiana college if everything goes according to plan, as much as I love the school. We are just so incompetent.

Lol at you, if it's between Louisiana and Gumpakistan, I choose Louisiana all day, every day.

So the question is, why the hell don't they help out the library?

LSU is smart enough not to dump money into a building form that’s near extinction.

They are working on reinventing the library just like they did the football locker room.

Auburn has the opposite problem. Over 140 million is bring constructed now (about $10 million for athletics.) Some others buildings about to start that are now in the early construction process or about to be bid.

Hopefully the cost of crawfish goes up so your big money tigers can step up.

Seriously though, beautiful campus sorry to hear about the financial situation. Could happen to any of us if we don’t stop let Californians escape.

Correct. I think the sleeping bed thing and all that in the locker room is dumb, but so what? LSU alums and boosters donated the money and earmarked it specifically for the football locker room.

Do I agree that a wiser investment of those dollars would have been the library thats made headlines, or some other area at their campus? Well, Sure. But it was private money, and the donors can have it go to whatever they want.

People are getting faux outraged and the most likely outcome of this is the library's condition has received such publicity the Go fund me and other donations will come in and it probably gets fixed too, turning it all into a net positive.

Couple of points:

1. LSU has at least one fund raising organization for academics. I'm an alum and never heard from them in 30 years. I went to MSU for one year in the 80s and they tracked me down (by cell phone!) a couple years ago, but not a peep from LSU.

2. The leaky library is going to be torn down according to the new campus plan.

The library is already scheduled to be torn down and relocated as part of the campus master plan.

Why would LSU sink a single cent into renovating it?

That isn’t much for a large public school.

LSU’s capital outlay last year was $136,692,000. The 5 year plan is over $718,000,000.

No athletics facilities on the state’s plan.

This is true. I think they'd prefer to continue complaining rather than to solve their problems.

Have you ever seen a Librarian attempt a forward pass?

I think not

I live in Houston.

The first 5 stories on the news last night were about murders.

Aggies stop acting like Louisiana is the only place with crime.

There is crime in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee and Arkansas, its just that nobody give a damn when one inbred murders another.

And don't get me started on Florida...
