"It is time the alumni of Louisiana State University took matter into our own hands," organizers said.

The effort surfaced on the same week that the current structure -- Middleton Library -- was cited as an example of campus neglect at the same time LSU announced the opening of a nearly $28 million, privately-funded athletic nutrition center and football locker room.
Middleton has suffered from water leaks and other problems for years.

It is become sort of a symbol of capital needs at the school amid years of paltry state assistance during financial problems.

...the library - has been neglected . The building is crumbling before our eyes. It doesn't just house books and microfilm and computers, it is the center of our quad and the center of our education .

$4,655 of the $20 million has been raised.

The Advocate

Been that way for a while.

"We are on the bottom," Alexander said.
Alexander said faculty pay raises are a top need, especially since average pay is 12th of 14 schools in the SEC.
Alexander said LSU has stemmed the annual loss from its teaching ranks, especially when budgets were being slashed regularly.
...which left LSU last in the Southeastern Conference in state spending per student and next to last nationally among peer institutions.

SEC Rant should start a charitable donation fund for our Cajun brothers.

It’s a shame such a historic southern university is so destitute.

Anything helps, baws.

A microcosm of the ineptness the state has with finances

I may be stepping in it here but are any of the SEC athletic departments giving some of the annual SEC windfall to the academic enterprise of their institutions?

The most Louisiana thing ever.

I can't imagine how anyone could voluntarily remain in that shite hole.

It's not surprising that any of them with an IQ over 40 have moved to Houston.

I know most institutions have athletics and academics completely separated and that's mainly because the academics didn't want athletics taking any of their money. However, now that athletics has been proven to make a shite ton of money, they think it should be given to them

SURELY there are more LSU alumni that are non athletes than there are alumni athletes. So the question is, why the hell don't they help out the library? All this crying BS because the TAF and others raised $28mil for a new locker room? Oh, let's not forget the nutrition center.

I wonder who paid for all the outlandish shite other athletic programs have? I mean, who needs a slide?

That’s why I live in Houston. The state of Louisiana has tremendous potential, but with corrupt politicians it will never be worth a damn.

Well some school's are doing better financially than others with academics.
Alabama currently has $400 million in construction going on.

Texas A&M is as well.

Maybe LSU can take pointers from them?

Fake arse news for anyone who’s ever been on campus. Funny how the new engineering and business schools never get mentioned.

Yes, we all get that. LSU Athletic Dept makes a lot of money...less than Bama and A&M...but still a lot.

While their actual university is languishing in a dire financial situation that could eventually affect athletics. Their president actually said it would.

Plus, what parents would want to send their student-athletes to a school with rusty, leaky libraries and academic buildings? Recruiting will take a hit.

Especially when compared to the burgeoning campuses of Alabama, UGA and A&M
