Ultimately though you’re dealing with a team that’s starting two true freshman tackles, and while both have been as good as any freshman linemen we’ve had here going back 20 or 30 years, they’re still freshman and Alabama is going to have the advantage there.

You mean that they can't stop the pass rush?

quote:

BJ Ojulari is the other elite pass rusher to be accounted for. The problem thus far is both he and Perkins play the same position in Matt House’s defense, and thus far they’ve been reluctant to play both at the same time as they feel it makes us light against the run.

From an Xs and Os standpoint, is there a defensive scheme that let's them both play without too much risk?

quote:

The secondary has been up and down and we’re badly exploited against Tennessee.

Isn't this worse when the offense plays tempo? What can we do about it?

Nick is terrified of any QB with a modicum of mobility. So we'll mush rush and give Daniels all day to throw and turn him into Johnny Unitas.

I was told "its" shouldn't have an apostrophe when used in this manner. Also bullshite?

From what I've seen, almost every LSU fan is picking a (close) Bama win.

That’s the problem. It wasn’t blown coverages. Our dumbass DC just left Hellman’s out there to get cooked all game. It was evident he wasn’t fast enough to cover Hyatt.

I think Bama’s running game could be the difference. Jahmyr Gibbs is the best I’ve seen at Bama in a while.

Now will BOB actually run when needed (like instead of passing with under 1 min) is another story.

Gibbs is better than advertised. He is so damned explosive that any little seam or gap can lead to 6 points. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen someone like that period, not just at Bama.

I hope this is an instant classic game as lsu is playing their best football of the year right now, but I’ve seen far too often what a dialed in Bama can look like.

Is the Bama defense actually bad or did they just give up a lot of points to UT? There’s are big difference between the two.

We're as talented as we've been in a long time on that side of the ball. But Peter Golding outsmarts himself with his game plans. If he ever realizes he doesn't need to ask his superior athletes to do more than beat the other guy, we'll be cooking with hot grease.

This thread is what this series should have been. These two teams have had commensurate talent, but it's felt like media golden boy Bama gets to win while lsu does some good thing every other year but can't consistently put it together.

But the frustration has been lack of coaching. We have a real coach now. Now we have the confidence as fans to expect more reasonable games, from our end, regarding preparation, adjustments, and general execution. Win or lose, we just wanted to put a product on the field reflective of our ability. Now, outcome be damned, it feels like we'll actually compete to our ability.

Yeah, that's what worries me.

Is Gibbs involved much in the passing game?

I'd love to see Kelly's team play against Saban's Alabama 6 years in a row.

More so than running game. Our run game sucked Saturday vs Miss St. Gibbs lines up wide as often as he does as a back. That's O'Brien for you.

Even so, containing Young is hard enough.

Judkins teed off on us last week.

If I am Bama I am going to make you throw it. If LSU, make Bama run it. Whichever team makes the other one dimensional has an edge.

That's still going to be hard for us.

Maybe we make enough adjustments in the 2nd quarter or later, and we score enough to keep up, but Bama could be up 21 points by then.

We keep falling behind early.

And frankly, even the fact that LSU can be considered a competitor in this game is gravy at this point.

This. The last two seasons have been hugely frustrating watching talent get squandered.

I am torn on you guys regarding talent/Bill O' Brien. I think all can agree O'Brien is at best sub-par, yet the offense is still in the top 5 of college football, if not the best at times. A lot of that is Young extending plays, and Gibbs being an absolute beast, but as much as it pains me to say it, as I hate the mother fricker for what he did to the Texans, BoB deserves at least some of the credit for what yalls offense has been doing the last two years.

Why?

I don’t know enough about X’s and O’s to talk about them, though.

So why the 1st quote? That “A” ain’t as intimidating as it once was. You don’t just show up on the road and win automatically because everybody’s scared of you anymore. You’re gonna have to do Xs and Os things to actually win it. And since you admittedly don’t know enough to talk about them, I go back to wondering where you get “this Alabama team SHOULD be nearly unbeatable.” Because clearly, this year anyway, they are not.

Yes, he does. He deserves credit for taking, probably the most talented offense in the country, and making them look a couple of steps behind what they could be. I give him full credit for that. The last two years, both would have been unstoppable with a GOOD OC. Don't show me the stats. I know where they've been ranked. It hasn't been the well oiled machine like with Sark. I don't even know what our offensive identity/philosophy is, except let Bryce or Gibbs bail us out when the play breaks down.

Yeah, I can see that. Young can hide a lot of scheme issues with just pure ability.

THIS times a hundred. I don't think the casual fan realizes the vast difference in talent between the Bama offense and just about anyone else in college football. Other than a healthy Boutte and Thomas and maybe Campbell at tackle, I'm not sure anyone at LSU is even in the rotation at Bama. You guys are stock piling 4 and 5 star lineman and we are throwing the two we have out on the field at 18 yrs old.
