That is a fact.....we have no infrastructure or workforce to attract new business here, and it will not change.

I wonder if LA could divide that into geoghraphic locations like the South, The central area and the North to see where they are leaving from.
I dont know much about LA but a lot of the growth in Al is happening in the N area. Huntsville and Madison co is growing.

Auburn and Baldwin County are other spots in Alabama that are booming too! Auburn has incredible public schools and of course, the beach is attracting people to Baldwin county.

Move to a better area. There are plenty of very nice places to live in La.

A lot of that growth is in the SC part of the Charlotte metro area. Charlotte is booming and a lot of people that work in Charlotte live in SC.

Baton Rouge and Nola have become jokes, and those are the 2 economic engines.

You make it sound like Louisiana is the only place in America that gets hurricanes. Louisiana gets fewer than some other states. The difference is Louisiana is a lower class of people that can not, or will not rebuild afterward. They just move to greener pastures like any other 3rd world caliber people.

The other small cities further north of BR and NO are nothing to write home about either. Just kinda dead economically.
I don’t know what the hell is with the statistically improbable series of big hurricanes you keep getting. Are you hiding Pharoah?

Yes, so true...... Charlotte area, the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham) and the Triad (Winston- Salem, Greensboro, High Point) are as good as it gets in this country, in fact the whole state of NC is. Easy access (2-3 hours) to the Ocean and the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains. Only thing I don't like is the amount of Northeasterners (N.J, N.Y) that are changing the charm of this Southern State.

Drive about three miles on a LA highway and you'll turn around too.

quote:Yeah, they are- but Nola is supposed to be the marquee city. Huge port, big tourism draw, supposedly an "international" city. Crime and corruption is so bad, it's impossible to lure any of the businesses you see going to, say, Charlotte or Atlanta. Nola was supposed to be at/near the top of that ladder, a couple decades ago.

As for BR, you have the confluence of a) big petrochemical presence, b) state capital, c) major university, d) northernmost deepwater port on the Mississippi River. You'd expect to see something come from that, and for awhile it was. But it, too, has dried up in the past few decades.
And both cities are sitting right on top of I-10, so you'd think good distribution from the ports etc. The way things were drawn up, it took a special effort for them to fail. Yet they managed to achieve that.
The other cities are just random cities in the South, no great draw. Those 2 had potential, which has been squandered.
quote:Well, it's where we are. Northern Africa spins up those depressions, and if it makes it into the Gulf, Louisiana is the bullseye.

The census puts out metro-metro migration estimates but the most recent data is through 2019. So before the pandemic. Will be fascinating to see this data once it is updated.

Baldwin, Madison, Lee, and Shelby counties are responsible for basically all the growth in Alabama. In that order.

Vast majority of those leaving LA are moving to SETX which is close enough to be back in LA every weekend.
Seriously drive on I-10 west on a Sunday you’ll see nothing but Texas plates. More than Louisiana plates. SETX and SLA overlap. Houston is just a big spur on the boot of Louisiana.

It's people not raising their children to be decent humans. Everything stems from that root.
