Guess I'll have to take Lous word on this horse shite nostalgia since very few of us were there to see football players living alongside the Stegosaurus.

Apparently this quote is from a 2020 event at Liberty College with Lou speaking to Jerry Falwell so that means he's talking about 1970ish? At the time the SEC had been integrated for only 4 years ...

Kentucky 1966
Tennessee 1967
Auburn 1969
Alabama, Vandy - 1970
LSU, Georgia - 1971
Ole Miss - 1972

I'd imagine Rights and privileges were still relevant and frequent topics, there just wasn't as much money in the game as there is today.

A huge chunk of young people in this country can’t even afford on a house to live in but it’s somehow their fault.

No they just can’t afford the house that they want. They all want a nice suburban home like their parents have. But they don’t realize most of their parents started out renting apartments or small homes and saved money before buying that larger house, just like they do.

When I moved out of my parents house I got an assistant manager job at a catfish farm, instead of renting a home I lived in an old crop duster hangar that had a bedroom, kitchen, and living room. Farm owned it so it was free, not ideal but I saved money. Year later got a better job, lived in an old trailer on the farm for 2 years then rented a small 2 bedroom house when I got a raise. Then I got a big raise and more bonus incentives, got engaged and we bought a nice 3,000 sq ft house and it’s completely paid for. No mortgage.

Point being, it can be done. I didn’t make 6 figures until the point I got engaged so not like I was raking it in. If you want nice things you have to live below your means and work hard to get to the income level required to maintain nice things once you do have them.

Too many young adults jump into the real world expecting to get their parents life immediately. It took me a decade of frugality out of college, and making smart choices like not getting married or having kids until I was financially ready. My parents are still better off than me right now, but I’m far far ahead of where they were at 32 years old.

Problem isn’t today that it can’t be done, it’s that young generation has a “I want it now” attitude and doesn’t make the hard choices and responsible actions combined with patience to get there. So they run up debt early on to have nice things, and they’ll never get ahead of it. I don’t solely blame the Boomers for the 31T in debt, our debt didn’t blossom until GWB was in office and has gotten only worse since. Yea a lot of those politicians are/were boomers but they only do what voters allow, and they were heavily voted for by Xers, Millenials, and Boomers alike. That problem falls on all of us

If you bought a house this past year or 2, I have a lot of sympathy for those first time house owners, especially with families. They are paying probably 50 to 100 grand more for the same stuff that was on the market 2 years ago. When you’re single, or without kids, you can make sacrifices. It’s different with a family imo.

Politics aside Reagan was a sunshine pumper as he had no solution either but he did load up on debt and went on a spending spree and was viewed as a great guy. At least Nixon, Ford, and Cater tried to fix it. Ronnie and Wall Street just levered up and pushed if forward.

This is bullshite. Reagan’s spending increases were almost all military related to end the Cold War by bankrupting the USSR in an arms race knowing they couldn’t keep up. Also LBJs Great Society created the welfare state that burdens us greatly today financially and ruined the working class and available labor pool.

Our debt to GDP ratio reached 119% right after WW2 then dropped dramatically as the economy boomed. It remained consistently under 65% with fluctuations of low 30s to 64% from 1955 to 2008. It hit 100% in 2014 and is now 123%. The highest ever was 129% in 2020 due to Covid. That’s why you’re seeing inflation now. That number cannot stay above 100% without inflation occurring. It’s on a downward trend, but it’s going to be painful as interest rates need to go higher and we need economic growth and wage growth combined with spending cuts to ease that inflation. But we won’t get the latter 2 with a Democrat administration

There is about to be a lot of cheap homes on the market. Only negative is interest rates. I got lucky on mine, lady who owned it needed the money and of course homes in the Ms delta aren’t expensive anyways. Got a house that appraised for 225k for 139k and paid in full

Did you get it reappraised? Don’t you get stuck paying taxes based on what it was appraised on, not what you paid?

50 years ago the players weren't spoiled divas that think they are God's gift to this earth and that they are owed something. Players today aren't just satisfied with having the opportunity to get a free education, free housing, and free meals. Now schools have to offer them money for them to come play which angers me to no end, if it wasn't for the school you would have no value. The recruits act like they are doing the school they choose a favor by going there to play football, it used to be the other way around. We are giving the players too much power, the NIL and transfer portal has ruined college football!

College sports were different back then, too. Now, people are looking to make millions off of these kids for what? The relatively low cost of an education versus the revenue they generate? Can't just look at the players and cast a stone, their behavior is a response to the very big business college sports has become. If someone generates that much money, their cut isn't too much to ask.

I was at a dinner that long ago basketball coach Doug Moe spoke at. He was known for being about as animated screaming coach as you will ever see. He told a story about ripping into Kiki VanDeWeghe(They are great friends still today) so hard during a timeout Kiki almost cried. He told him he was useless so just go back in and foul his arse out as fast as possible, maybe get in someones way by accident. Kiki goes in hacking everyone but doesn't not get called for a foul. Afterwards the ref told one of the stat guys that they felt so sorry for Kiki they didn't want to get him in more trouble with his coach.

Funny story but his point was if you did that today the player would tell you to f off and go sit on the bench or leave.
