how does it feel to be fighting for second best team in Mississippi?
how does it feel to be the second best baseball program in the LSU system?

LSU-Eunice has 8 titles -
LSU-Baton Rouge 7 -

Don’t use your ace pitchers on midweek games. I thought everyone knew this.

It is amazing how many people here don’t even know what month it is. It’s February.

Can’t say that I blame USM. The game was between series with Lafayette and La Tech. A win does more for them late season when they are trying to get a regional host slot.

No way an LSU fan chirping about mid week losses to instate schools.

How did LSU do the last time they played in Hattiesburg? I’ll give you a hint, USM has hosted an SEC team in a Regional or Super Regional four times, and only once did the SEC team not advance….

Yeah, I think it was smart on their part.

Opening week, they have a lot of OOC baseball to get him back into normal rest rotation.

Given both teams conference schedules, this game was much more important to their resume than ours. Every win matters with a sunbelt schedule, have to get at least 40. Props to them for making the right call.

They started their All-American reliever.

I don't blame USM. It worked out perfectly for them. It was their fifth largest crowd ever and they believe they have a team that will be in contention for a regional host. An SEC win will be a nice resume point.

We started a true freshman in his first start which added fuel to the USM motto "State and Ole Miss do not respect us."

Alabama plays 11 midweek games against lower D1 in-state teams
A&M plays 11
Texas plays 11
Auburn plays 10
Florida plays 10
LSU plays 10
South Carolina plays 8
Kentucky plays 5
Arkansas plays 5
Georgia plays 5
Vanderbilt plays 4
Missouri plays 4
Ole Miss plays 4
State plays 3
Tennessee plays 3
Oklahoma plays 2

There's a pretty good chance that USM over MSU isn't the only midweek upset of this type of game.

Southern Miss has a solid baseball program and they tend to go all out if playing either State or Ole Miss on a weekday game.

As a matter of fact yes I still am. Not really a surprising loss. Sooners can’t lose them all and were due a win
