Would have stayed at Tulane had Tulane not allowed him to coach in the playoffs.

He would have turned down Florida and the 10’s of millions and the chance at a better job in order to go to the playoffs as a double digit dog and have to stay at Tulane.

I don’t know how fans are dunking LSU on this. Your coach is either a retard or a bigger liar than anyone else out there…..

So you are arguing that Sumrall would have chosen his team over a paycheck. Arguing that Sumrall is a higher character individual than Kiffin is a strange way to troll Florida.

Posts like this prove that LSU fans do recognize that what Kiffin did was uber shitty.

The divorce between Kiffin and LSU is going to be Biblical.

I mean..... was he at press conference and denied out right that he was not going to be the LSU HC??? I recall someone doing that but can't put my finger on it.

Maybe I misread what he said, but I thought he was saying that if UF wouldn't allow him to coach in the playoff, not Tulane. Also he said he wasn't referring ot any other situation, so LSU fans need to quit getting riled up by the other thread. Or not. It doesn't matter, as you guys are gonna find a way to hate him eventually. But in this case I thought he was specifically talking about if his new team demanded he only coach them starting immediately, and not allow him to continue with Tulane.

Exactly. Tulane is not about to stop a coach from coaching them in the playoff. It may be there only chance to ever get there. He was never faced with that decision.

Is there any fanbase that LSU fans are amicable with? It appears they throw piss balloons and scream STTDB at the entire world.

This.

The constant need to rationalize why Lane "isn't any worse than (insert coach's name)" is hilariously obnoxious. What's done is done.

He wasn't talking about Tulane. He said if Florida or any other school he was thinking about going to said that he couldn't coach Tulane in the playoffs, he would have said no thank you.

It has nothing to do with LSU. LSU did not, as far as I know, tell Lane that he couldn't coach Ole Miss in the playoffs. For people to compare it to Kiffin's situation is stupid. Don't let the press, or the other thread fool you.

I'd disagree. He was taking a shot at Lane Kiffin. Lane was told by his current employer at the time that he couldn't coach the playoff. So, IMO, his statement is 100% about Tulane. As I said, he didn't have to make that choice so he doesn't know how we would react.

As of this moment in time, I am happy with the way things turned out. I will await final decision until I see the product on the field but CJS has exceeded expectations to this point, while Lane is still just being Lame.

OK what did he say that was a shot at Kiffin?

He said that if Tulane told him no to coaching them he would have been out, but he said no "other" team was going to tell him he couldn't coach Tulane.

No dolt, he’s arguing that Sumrall is lying through his teeth. Something I think most people would agree with. Or at least those people without an agenda.

Then I did not hear that part. I heard the sound bite and saw the quotes just about him not leaving at all. I never saw him say that he would have left if Tulane told him he couldn't coach.

This is what Google AI pulled up. I didn't feel like digging up the whole article...
quote:

Jon Sumrall's widely discussed quote regarding his departure from Tulane is: "I would have stayed at Tulane and not taken another job. I was not going to leave a team playing for a championship to go coach another team. That's not in my DNA. I ain't built like that."He clarified that he made a commitment to his team and would have turned down his position with the Florida Gators if Tulane had not allowed him to finish coaching them through the College Football Playoff.

So, that is incorrect? I am genuinely asking. You would know better than me.

It is only a 55 second clip, but it is pretty clear he was talking about any paramaters a school who was hiring him tried to put on him. At the end he says if Tulane didn't want him then he would be out. But obviously that wasn't the case.
