Really good read.

Derek Lewis is turning out to be a really good hire on the recruiting trail for UF. It was said that he planned Phillips' entire unofficial. He talked him into coming and giving UF a shot, and then when Phillips arrived on Campus, Lewis acted as the tour guide. Then, of course Lewis set in on the meeting that our staff had with Phillips. It was Quinn, Muschamp, Lewis, and Durkin. Lewis definitely gets the kudos for the Phillips commit. Hopefully he can coach TE's as well as he recruits. He's also killing it in the Tampa area for UF this year in recruiting.

I remember when UF hired him, everyone remembered him as the guy that caught the winning TD in the Big 12 championship game that propelled UF to get to play in the NC game over Nebraska I believe.

Yea, i agree good info. But every team has those ties as well. But they also have a instate rival who recruits against them.

Im not picking Auburn because Im a fan but look at what Chizik faces. He has a instate rival who is at the most storied football team in NCAA history. Top 3 recruiting class every year since he has been at Bama.

Then, he has plenty of the same type of ties as Miles. Im not saying Les does not have to recruit but I would bet he plucks 80% of the good talent in LA.... Not many other teams can do that.

He is a great guy and has a unreal winning percentage. But, as others have said about Chizik, he has good assistants and has been very lucky. Last year, you guys were ready to fire his arse. His incompetence has shown many times.. Just one or two plays that did not go his way over the past few years and he is unemployed..

That is not the sign of a great coach which is why I rate him like I do. Nothing against LSU.

Keep in mind that Bama and AU can recruit the panhandle of Florida and both have inroads to Georgia. LSU has its select recruits in LA that they offer and a few from MS, and a few more from TX. IMO, Bama and AU have more of a talent pool to select from.

Les is a really good coach that gets overlooked because he does quirky things. He's a top 5 coach in CFB. You would be hard pressed to name 5 guys better than Les Miles in CFB IMO.

He's a mediocre to decent coach at a top 10 program...

There is really no way to determine that. Every year is different. He can recruit in Texas much better than AU or AL and there is unlimited talent there.

I disagree that he is at a disadvantage at all.

Look at the recruiting rankings from GA and Florida. It's much better than LA, MS, and Houston combined. You can disagree with me all you want, but you would be hard pressed to find ANYBODY on this board that follows recruiting more than I do.

I like Les.. He's hilarious. I think he's finally learned his lesson on the proper pronunciation of Arkansas.. I'm not sure if he's an elite coach or is just surrounded with so much talent that it's hard to loose. (He also has some good luck) Ask yourself this...Would Les be near as successful if Saban would have not proceeded him at LSU and left his magic dust on everything? Go Hogs!

What do all these coaches have in common? None of them have won a NC. Try again.

We can recruit the he'll out of Houston, but DFW recruits always come back to bite us in the arse when texas offers. Take mike Davis for example

I look forward to Petrino schooling Les and his 5 stars with our 5.7 three stars... It will be another glorious victory for us in this series.

Exactly. LSU doesn't recruit DFW well at all. They recruit Houston well, but that's really it from TX.
