Lane Kiffin LSU Contract & Future

LSU has agreed to pay Lane a base salary of $91,000,000.
2026: $13,000,000
2027: $13,000,000
2028: $13,000,000
2029: $13,000,000
2030: $13,000,000
2031: $13,000,000
2032: $13,000,000
If LSU fired Kiffin before through 2032, they owe him $72,000,000 (80%)
Given Kiffin's history, I dont see him staying at LSU for the entire contract. IMO, I think you see him go back to the NFL within 4 years.
I look for Lane to be back in LA with either the Chargers or the Rams where he will make a minimum of 15 million per year.

Would be f'n hilarious if he bolted for the Saints this offseason.

I dont see him staying in the same state if he bolts. When things get tough he runs away. He doesnt stay around long enough to endure the pressure of bad press.

I will bet a lot of money that LSU wins its next natty before Ole Miss wins its first one in over 60 years. I will throw in TAM too.

I don't know why this is such a common thought. Almost all of Lane's experience in coaching is at the college level. He does not appear to be sought after by NFL teams. His system doesn't translate well, and while there are adjustments he can make, Kiffin needs to be in control and the NFL would not give him the kind of control he would want.

If they do, it wont be with Lane. He's burnt himself out and doesn't have the consistency to do the heavy lifting.

The NFL will never hire Lane back. That ship has sailed.
LSU is married to Kiffin for better or for worse. There is no future where LSU fires him and buys him out.

Not true. Kiffin isn't guaranteed to be at LSU for even 4 years. If they find out he's got a drug problem (very easy) then he will be fired and publicly shamed with cause.

This is what happens when you let a governor take control of your AD.
"No, I can tell you right now Scott Woodward is not selecting the next coach. Hell, I'll let Donald Trump select it before I let him do it," Landry said at a press conference Wednesday for SNAP benefits.
"I can promise you, we are going to pick a coach and we're going to make sure that coach is successful and we're going to make sure he is compensated properly and we are going to put metrics on it, because I'm tired of rewarding failure in this country and then leaving the taxpayers to foot the bill," Landry said.
Would be hilarious if LSU is in the exact same position in a few years with Kiffin as they were last year with Kelly.

(very easy)
LSU will not be firing Kiffin because of drug use. Not this year or the next or the next.

Only way Lane gets to the NFL is as an OC. No way an owner would hire him as a HC.

At least the buyout will be less.

Maybe. I think LSU is his last stop either way. He's either coaching in Baton Rouge for another 20 years or he's living in a beach house in Cabo in a few years. There is no in between. No one his asking him to lead their program if he crashes and burns at LSU.

I think Lane has us in the playoffs consistently after this year and he leaves for an NFL job after year 5 ...

Man, I didn't know the Saints were that desperate.

If this season goes further sideways, I can see LSU pushing him out the door. He'll probably drop one or two more games, but if he really tanks and drops 5 or 6, they'll definitely can him.
