They built it to connect with the south endzone upper deck. I don't remember it looking that weird but looking back yeah it looks odd. There's a street that runs right behind the north endzone so I guess they figured the chances of adding a upper deck there is very slim.
You can barely see the road with the trees but it runs right behind the stadium.

So high school stadiums have 3 levels, tons of suits, clubs levels, fully enclosed, overhangs, one of the largest video boards, 2 other video boards, WiFi for 100k, etc?

I honestly don’t get the reaction.
Groundskeepers could mow it in the opposite direction today, and it’d look completely different.
It’s grass ... for a spring game.
I read posts like the ones in this thread, and I’m reminded just how differently men and women are wired.

The stadium is absolutely fine. The field is fine.
ETA: I did prefer the "TEXAS AGGIES" written in the endzone to what is there now.
