He's speaking in generalities. Find the quote where he says he was offered the EAGLES job and turned it down. You can't because it doesn't exist.

You are one of "those Aggies" who WAAAAY over estimate how high-profile A&M is and how badly coaches want the A&M job.

WE love A&M, and it is a great institution and a good job, but it isn't top-tier and coaches who have their eyes on a premier gig or the NFL will definitely jump from us.

The only type of coach who won't bolt when really successful would be a fellow Ag, because it would be their dream job. We are not Sumlin's dream job.

Possibly, can you expound on this? If Smart is waiting for the Bama job, he's costing himself a lot of $$$. If he turns downs either Texas or USC(assuming Bama 3peats) he is a fool.

I was wondering how long before 'Gruden' was mentioned.

Wishful thinking on your part? Sumlin can get a better gig than USC. I know how prestigious their program is, but things change, and y'all are not considering the current landscape of CFB.

A&M doesn't have the hardware yet, but don't act like A&M is a shitty gig. Not even fricking close.

i despise that program with every fiber of my being. but they can fix what is going one with a single swoop. everyone saying that USC is a mess right now and no coach will want to go there is wrong and they dont understand how badly USC dominates southern california. its worse than what texas had on a&m over the past decade

I know they can, but it doesn't mean they can get whoever they want. Some people are basically saying the A&M gig is like driving a Ford Taurus compared to an Audi for USC. It's a ridiculous comparison. A&M stole Fran and Jackie Sherill from big programs (PITT was at the time) for pete's sake.

a&m is a great job. but it isnt USC. USC will always be a premier destination. sumlin isnt leaving, but to assume that he either A) wont listen or B) they cant get a big time coach is asinine

I'm not assuming either one of those, dude. Just fyi. Sumlin would be dumb not to listen and not get a raise out of this. If A&M has another 10+ win season, he'll have earned it, considering all the extra BS he's had to deal with this year.

He said he was offered an NFL head job and turned it down. Others in the media have said it was the Eagles. Who do you think it was?

Maybe Sumlin goes to USC and coaches for a few years until Jacksonville franchise moves to LA.

The point being made that for 50 years Tommy Trojan had the monopoly on the west coast. Since realignment the PAC must now share and share alike. Southern Cal has some built in advantages but Oregon and Stanford have chipped off their piece of the pie and other programs will have the cash to make Southern Cal less of a monopoly long term.

Same thing happened at UCLA in basketball when Wooden sidestepped the Papa Sam mess but the basketball team never returned to the monopoly days when Sam was involved with the Bruin basketball program.

Be crazy to. USC doesn't get it's full number of scholarships until 2015, and they're obviously not good now. Even with Saban I can't see them being respectable until 2016 at the earliest (by which time the new coach will have been fired).

Saban turned down like 6 NFL offers before he went to the Dolphins
