Don't be surprised when, 3-5 years from now, Sumlin and Bert are both having success as head coaches somewhere.

$10M buyout paid within 60 days

Just ridiculous amount of money, this should cost an AD his job every time. The universities act like they have no negotiating power at all.

It's financial malpractice. Any buyout should always be mitigated by future salaries. Having to pay him within 60 days should be a fireable offense.

Sumlin will likely go from being 4th place in the SEC West to 4th place in the PAC 12 South.

The AD responsible for that was fired after the 2015 season (Eric Hyman).

really? Damn. I knew a&m was trending downwards compared to a few years ago but that's a lot worse since than I thought.

Not elite by any means, but in today's coaching market I think this is a big risk

A&M is very confident that we're getting Jimbo. I imagine we'll make him the third highest paid coach in college football.

Don't fault A&M for making a change. I think Sumlin had probably plateaued and was likely to continue to have 7-5, 8-4 type seasons. Program has a lot of potential and they need to make a move to find the right coach to take them to the next level, especially while Texas is still struggling. But they better hire the right guy or things may be the same or worse.

Sumlin left y'all's program in a pretty good place. Seems like there is a lot of talent on that roster for the next guy to work with, especially on offense. Think if A&M makes the right hire the next coach will have success fairly quickly.

Sources w/knowledge of TAMU search process tell me Jimbo-Fisher has a deal to be next Head Coach @AggieFootball .Fisher will coach 1 final game at FSU but not Bowl game should they become eligible. I'm told his TAMU contract will be at least 5 yrs/7.5 million per year.

However, there is a chance the two sides negotiate a lower buyout as Sumlin is considered a candidate for the vacant Arizona State head coaching position that also opened on Sunday and wants to move quickly toward that goal.

The lower negotiated buyout will have more to do with him wanting to keep certain things quiet as opposed to other job openings.

Nope. Contract expires this year. He's gone.

As an LSU fan though, I thought you would be begging us to keep Mazzone.

Coming from the NBC Houston affiliate. Would have felt better if it was the local Fox guy, but damn near everyone has been focused on Fisher.

Both of their contracts are up this year. They won't be asked back.
