After six years, Texas A&M has fired head coach Kevin Sumlin, the university has announced. Sumlin finishes his A&M career with a 51-26 record. He ranks No. 4 all-time in wins among Aggie coaches. However, he had an SEC record of only 25-23 and 16-20 vs. the SEC West. He also failed to ever beat LSU.

Aggies must pay the approximately $10.4 million remainder of the balance within 60 days of his termination. However, there is a chance the two sides negotiate a lower buyout as Sumlin is considered a candidate for the vacant Arizona State head coaching position that also opened on Sunday and wants to move quickly toward that goal.

Special teams and tight ends coach Jeff Banks will serve as the interim coach for the bowl game.

Tennessee could have hired Sumlin, and they'd have been a helluva lot better off.

51-26 over 6 years.
Not elite by any means, but in today's coaching market I think this is a big risk

He ought to hook up with Johnny Football for a night or two.

College station liquor stores will need to adjust their shipments accordingly.

I can see this being a realistic view of the end of the relationship. It wasn't perfect, most aren't, but he isn't leaving a dumpster fire for the next guy. That is a view from a 100 ft back though, don't follow A&M closely. Seems like a clean break though.
Hope he lands somewhere soon, the Arizona State rumors are intriguing.

Prior to the 2014 Mississippi State game, Sumlin's record was 25-6 (12-6).
Since that game, it is 26-20 (13-17)

Too bad someone didn't send him another "insert racial slur here" letter before the game to save his job again.

If Banks is interim, I think that means Chavis and Mazzone are gone too.

Just ridiculous amount of money, this should cost an AD his job every time. The universities act like they have no negotiating power at all.
