Yea, all 3 of those times.

Wait are we counting Gus's games as OC? If you're counting the 2010 IB, I think you have to count the 2011 IB where Auburn didn't do shite offensively, right?

Gus and Hugh have beaten The King 4 times with each of those Bama teams being dayum good football teams. Say what you will be the record is documented.

If I recall correctly the Muschamp DC hire in 2015 was a late nighter as well.

2013

2017
Only when Gus was head coach

Which means Gus will be 6-6 or 7-5 in 2019 and the new coach will go 11-1 in 2020. It is like Auburn is on a scheduled pattern.

Gus still has all the leverage over the barn complex. 2019 is a free shot for Gus and he wins regardless. If he has success he banks another 7 million for 2020 season and if he fails he banks 16-20 million.

I think the point is the 2014 offense was very effective against Saban, the defense less so

Gus was grooming Lashlee probably since Rhett was in middle school. You don't just gain the type relationship overnight that you gain over years of a man grooming a boy.

Yes, bama won, but it wasn't because saban stopped Gus' O.
Nick Marshall threw for 456 yards.........yes, 456 yards passing.
Auburn ran for 174 yards.
That is over 600 yards of O against a saban D.

This is a very good outcome and I've been very negative the last couple of weeks.
Not that I think it's going to save the Gus tenure or anything, but it will do the following:
1) No question about playcalling liability when the time comes for a decision on his job next year
2) Reasonable chance that Gus refocuses and the O improves with him calling games. I don't think it's viable in the long term, but following a mixture over the last couple years I could see him doing well next season (in play calling, not necessarily in results)
3) Dillingham fits what we probably want to do, what we need (QB coach) and what Gus needs (offense oversight without ceding play calling). He's been in this role before so the risk for friction seems lower. Plus he does seem like a decent offensive mind.
4) Two years of Dillingham are likely cheaper than 1 year of Freeze, so we're not significantly increasing the financial burden of the buyout.
