I've been saying for years that the 8-team conference schedule is one of the smartest things the SEC does. The Big 12 was stupid to go to 9,true round-robin or not.

Eight in conference allows you a non-conference schedule of:

1. A big-name program to excite fans and show you're not ducking good competition

2. A middling FBS team (decent G5 or lower P5) where a top-25 school has at least a 90% chance of winning

3. A garbage FBS team that might scare you in the first half every five years if you go into it sleepwalking.

4. Some poor FCS team that most of us have only heard of because somebody good played them in basketball that one time ten years ago. That's your extra bye week before rivalry week.

Plus what was said earlier about half your teams automatically having an extra loss with 9 conference games.

8 = smart, 9 = dumb

It also allows 8 home games, (or 7 and a neutral) every year which are cash cows.

Your "Old SWC" Pod has 2 schools that weren't in the SWC in OU and Mizzou and leaves out Arky.

By far the best model is the Permanent 3 and rotate. It's the only way to keep the rivalries in place and it allows for teams to actually play each other instead of going a decade or more between games.

Certainly can't do round robin and a conference championship game. It's one or the other.

The Big 12's "one true champion" bit hit an iceberg the very first year when they had Baylor/TCU co-champions. Probably cost TCU a shot at the playoffs, when they were arguably the best team at the end of the season.

ALREADY afraid of Alabama. You haven't even played a game yet, but are begging, as one of the westernmost schools in the conference, to be placed in the east.

A&M has been lobbying to be in a different pod than us. Its amazing how scared they are.

The best way is a 9 game schedule..
rotate 6 with 3 annual rivals
Top 2 play for the title..

You play 3 teams home-home twice every 4 years

You play 6 teams home-home every 4 years

Can’t be much simpler.

You still have 3 games to do whatever you want to.. UGA can keep scheduling 2 OOC P5 teams every year; while Bama schedules 1 and plays Mercer and South Alabama

I look forward to winning the north pod on the regular in that scenario.

9 conference games instantly add 1 loss to half the conference, worse ranking for the low and middle rung SEC teams means lower SOS for everyone....and lower ratings for the top teams......

Welcome to REAL football. Losing games in the SEC isn't just a possibility, it's highly likely. Put your big boy pants on, because you're in for a ride.

"Muh put us in the East." Yeah, I bet you want the east, bitch.

Bring in OU and Texas to the West.

And get rid of the East.

Best way is to kick their butt out before they get in. And add Arky,USC,Mizzou and A&m to the list. Go back to the 10 real members of the SEC.

Welcome back Friend! It's been a while. As you can see, dial-up internet is no longer a thing. Neither are parachute pants, Starter jackets, or beepers.

Bama and Auburn to the East, Mizzou, OU and Texas to the West is about the only thing that will keep me interested.

It's really the only thing that could happen. The East has become the ACC. When BAMA and their autistic little brother get over there the SEC will finally have some competitive balance.

NOw that we have had some discussion , I say drop divisions and do NOT start pods. The divisions almost always are not equal and the top two teams are very likely to be in the same division......

Just maintain 8 game conf schedule that the SEC has successfully exploited for decades, 1 or 2 annual conference rivals as chosen by school, rotate the rest of the conference teams to get through the conference as quickly as possible.

The 4 game OOC should be: one national contender , a OOC rival if needed, a middlin FBS team, a FCS warmup scrimmage, a late season bye.....

I wish you well on that one. The big 12 got pushed into one division look when they refused to live up to their name. Plucking the top 2 teams for the CCG is fine and dandy, but in a 16 team conference, the SEC won't even think about it.
