The southern states left and formed a new nation, the Confederate States of America. The United States of America invaded the Confederate States of America. A civil war is fought within the same nation and this was not that.

First off your entire premise is ridiculous, even if we accept the idea that one part of a country trying to break away without the others consent somehow just makes them a new country and makes this not a civil war.
It’s pretty well documented that the first act of aggression after secession was the confederates bombing a union fort… and before you give me this crap about how it was in South Carolina, it was an American fort occupied by American (Union) soldiers.
Anyway, I’m sure you’re about to inundate me with “reasons I’m wrong” and “reasons the Union were the bad guys”, and that’s on me for taking your bait.
ETA: you can respect the past without trying to rewrite history, plenty of good people in the confederacy, doesn’t make them correct.
