It is a good job it just isn't a great job that can turn into a dynasty. Not many programs can.

If Auburn hired the right coach and all the PTB got in alignment, there’s no reason it couldn’t come within arm’s reach of a dynastic type program, with frequent playoff appearances. Money isn’t an issue and Auburn falls in a sweet spot for recruiting.

Yeah I think I would put them up there too. I can't think of any glaring flaws in terms of potential.

Miami? No flaws? How about the literal lack of an actual fan base and that you play your games 21 miles from campus in an NFL stadium you can't fill the lower bowl of. Plus an administration that has been committed to returning Miami's reputation to that of a small, elite private university instead of a football school.

Notre Dame has a much greater image and reputation than 90% of college football programs. They can be located in Antarctica and still get the players.

I thought he actually lives and is from Georgia but I could see him being an Auburn fan. What I like about him is that he just sticks to facts, doesnt' get overly excited for one team or group of teams over another.

You must not follow recruiting very closely. This class is far from locked.

Show me the last time they finished in the top 5. They are usually a top 8-15 type of team.

This is the real issue. Miami fans aren't really that into college football. When the team is really good the city comes out. Any time they're bad the fans don't get upset they just kind of go away.

Auburn has as much potential as any team in the country outside of Texas and USC IMO.

Why does Auburn have more "potential" than other SEC schools like Bama, Georgia, Florida, ATM, Tennessee?

How about Ohio State? Auburn have more "potential" than they have?

What makes Auburn "special" compared to these type of places?

I’ll give you the second and third points. Kids travel from Chicago, California and New Jersey and Florida and Texas to play at ND. Location is not an issue

Auburn lost their potential when Bagmen became obsolete

If Clemson can Auburn can. I think you'd have to have the right leadership at the right time when Alabama and UGA aren't where they currently are, but it's doable at Auburn or any school at Auburn's level.

I think it's unlikely for any school outside the modern top 5-7, but we've got the same shot at that type of run as anyone else in our tier.

Clemson had a much easier road in a weaker conference. They were rising when ACC powers FSU and Miami were sliding, this is why Jimbo left because he no longer was the only big fish in the small pond.

If you trade Clemson and Auburn to the ACC then yes they would do much better but the SEC is so talented in a football crazed conference, a dynasty is extremely hard and only a few programs in history have done so.

Well yeah, hence my caveat that it would be extremely unlikely with UGA/Bama as they are.

But generally I do agree, Clemson's run was really unlikely and may not be seen again by another team in its class for decades. But my point is that there is nothing for Auburn that excludes that type of fortune outright, it's the same very slim chance that most other schools in the 10ish to 20ish range have of a run like that.

And Josh Pate is entitled to his opinion. But Josh Pate, being nothing more than a media guy, shouldn't confuse himself as having an opinion that matters, in the big scheme of things.

The relative value of the Auburn job will be established by whomever accepts it. Based upon the last hire ? Auburn wasn't that much more attractive than Kentucky. Which isn't saying much for Auburn.

I’m very biased but imo Auburn was only relevant when it could cheat to get an edge. Those days are gone since cheating is ok now. At this point, AU has to compete like everyone else. Certainly they can attract some kids with cult tendencies but there are not that many young men outside of Texas that would see this as a good thing. I am so tickled to hear the talk about Deion going to Auburn. I love among these inbreds. They ain’t hiring no “Man of Color” to lead them. Ok, they will let Caddy have a few games but he ain’t going to be hired either. Auburn has less to offer than any State University in the SEC, and A&M. That puts them about 8th or so. That’s is the new normal. Accept it.
