And with the right coaching hire, that program is set up to be the next SEC power since Saban’s career is almost over.

Auburn has as much potential as any team in the country outside of Texas and USC IMO. I think those two have some advantages that just can't be replicated anywhere else if harnessed correctly.

They have all the resources to be really successful and Saban is on his way out the next few years if not next year. LSU will likely be the biggest competition.

location, religious factors, and academics hamper them but I do think they might be in a tier just below USC and Texas and above everyone else. They make more money per athlete than any program in the country (that may not be true anymore, but it was a year or two ago).

Yeah I think I would put them up there too. I can't think of any glaring flaws in terms of potential.

Yes because Alabama is just going to fall off a cliff and become Vanderbilt and Georgia isn't sitting right there either. Right, this doesn't sound biased at all...

Sort of like LSU, if you don’t average at least 10 wins a year you’re underperforming. Except in Auburn’s case, they share their state with Bama and have to play Georgia every year.

While the ceiling is high, it’s not the recipe for a stable career opportunity.

I just love how all these young journalists think Bama was basically Vanderbilt historically until Saban got there. Bama will always be in the talk of the SEC powers unless the NCAA steps in again.

Pate hates Auburn. It probably brought him great pain to admit this.

WRONG. Even admitted he was an Auburn fan two nights ago.
He is very biased.

Post the link, because I’ve only ever heard him bash Auburn.

And all this would be true but Auburn can't help but meddle with itself.

Auburn's DNA is being the underdog. As such, it will always subconsciously look for ways to be sub-par until either Iron Bowl, game with Georgia or it somehow it finds itself in a big game near the middle to end of the season.

I'm sure that's why so many coaches turned it down last time.

Josh Pate is just another hack fishing for clicks.

I think he's right. But there is one glaring problem...

We are already IMO significantly more beatable than we were just 3-4 years ago. Maybe say thats Saban declining, coaching turnover finally catch up with us, or just offenses being better than ever and giving almost any team a chance. Or some combo of all of that.

When Saban does hang it up Bama will be able to get pretty much anyone they want outside of 3 or 4 names in college, and who knows about NFL guys. We don't have anyone in house who is just a shoe-in to take over like Ohio St had when Urban left so there is some risk with any transition to someone not in-house.

I'm not saying we will fall of a cliff, but we might be winning 9-10 games per year for at least a couple of years instead of 11-12.
