I love sports(certain ones anyway) with a passion. But man we really f'ed up by allowing this monster to grow so big. Way too much emphasis in our society. And then we allow athletes to feel more important than they really are.

Money is to big now and there is absolutely no oversight, investigation arm, or enforcement with these players.

I mostly doubt it but some people thought Milroe may have thrown the Oklahoma game. He did lob a couple of easy picks to OU, one a pick 6, and 0 for his own team. He also turned the ball over 3 straight possession vs Michigan in the bowl game.

In any event, I 'm glad that piece of shite half assed qb is finally gone.

As for their majors being worthless, wasn't that their choice? There are very many examples of players having true majors and successful careers post playing careers.

Uh, look at Nico's stats in the Arkansas game.

Look at the last play. Don't tell me that wasn't a "business decison".

ML was Arkansas +400 on that game.

I kind of chuckle at this. Players both then and now... got their "free education" in majors that would embarrass an art history major in terms of real earning power. Any advantage they got from their degree was due to name and networking.

Really? Because the physEd majors would get jobs coaching football, basketball and baseball in high schools, with opportunities to get a masters and move into admin

Art history majors go make coffee for the drive through at Starbucks

Trying to enjoy being a fan of college athletics now is like trying to date a stripper: you have to be cynical or naive as hell to make it work because logically it doesn’t make any sense.

What a great way to represent the feeling. Perfect.

What made college football have mass appeal and more than a minor league sport are the things that differentiate it from the NFL. Amateurs (yes maybe with a some cash handshakes) playing for love of game, university, state pride, tradition, etc. even if it was never true, the perception made it seem like a more pure game.

Now it is everything the NFL is and so much worse. The best 1% will be fine and have NFL careers but the other 99% that the old model benefited with a free education, preferred admission, name recognition and discipline to benefit their non-football careers, and the pure fun of getting to be a college athlete will get wiped out. Fans will be gone within a decade at this pace.

Hard to believe so many voted for the type leadership that put that thing in a position of military leadership. Democrats are horrible people.

didn't vote for either. You idiots can't wrap your head around that most people in this country hate both sides.

Because that isn't true.

If most people in this country actually hated both sides, there would be a viable third option.

The problem you guys have is your team has never really felt the pain of other teams cheating until now.

And now you are reacting as if the world is ending. Where were you when your teams were buying players for decades while the majority of schools did not? I’m in south Georgia and players from the 80’s, 90,s and 00’s openly talk as do the high school coaches about what they got from Auburn, Bama, UGA, FSU, etc. And you guys loved it because you could beat your chest about winning. UGA beating GT the past 40 years is no different than professional wrestling because the game was rigged. And most of those guys now regret it because the bag money has long been spent, the cars they got are now gone, and even if they got a degree it’s half worthless.

Rules will never be followed because teams want to get the best players to win and they start in them in 6th grade .

I love NIL and the portal because it puts every school in the same situation for the first time ever. Players wanting to sit out or transfer is the new paradigm for coaches just like utilizing the bagman was at one point decades ago. The coaches who adapt will win. Saban was a king at the bagman system but decided he didn’t want to learn the new system. The next generation of coaches will learn to adapt or lose.

Now I understand why Nick Saban retired

Yep, Nick didn't retire because he was "scared" of losing due to the NIL and transfer portal. He said in his post-retirement interview with Rees Davis that it got to the point where players were coming into his office not wanting to talk about anything other than money and "how much are you going to pay me?".

He also started running into it on the recruiting trail as well. The visits had nothing to do with football, but all the kid and parents cared about was "how much are you going to pay us?". He said at that point he knew it was time to pack it in.

frick this for real. I can't wait for this to collapse and the money to dry up. Then the NFL can start their little farm leagues like they want and we can get our sport back

You make no sense…

Money…

Not every school has the money or boosters or donors. So now youre in the exact same place as before but just out in the open.

If not ,schools like GATech would just out bid everyone else like some schools do now.

The only thing that has changed is you now have players with all the power and acting like spoiled brats.

Not just Nico, but several players from other programs renegotiated in the middle of a playoff run, holding the team hostage.

The only way to stop this bullshite is by banning NIL collectives altogether and levying severe penalties against schools that allow these collectives to operate to their benefit. Kids are free to go sign endorsements with Nike or Bubba’s auto body shop or whoever, but there needs to be a permanent ban on fans, boosters and other interests pooling money and securing endorsements deals as a recruitment tool.
