Eh, he will probably stand out more in a small 1a setting than he would a large 5a. And he will get to play multiple sports. He is already a starter on the football team. The star athlete thing is more of a joke between us. Because he thinks he will be better than me.
We looked at it and the academics are on par with his old high school. But like anywhere else, it will be what he puts into it. Probably the biggest reason is the ability to be in FFA. Yeah, I know they have it in the city too. But in the country it is just different. So he is looking forward to that the most. And his class only 45 kids. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be an Aggie.
We'll be there for all his events. See him every weekend, video chat every day and his nosey aunt is a football field away. He'll be okay.
But there is no hard rule on how to parent. So what works for some doesn't have to work for others. To each his own.

Bunch of old farts and worry warts. It's not like we are sending him to boarding or military school. He's a good kid and earned our trust. And he will have plenty of family and friends around. It's really not that bad.
He gets to do his Ag thing, hunt/fish as much as he wants. And I get a live in ranch hand.

It's my hometown and high school. I went to school with the super, principal and couple of his teachers. So he will be in good hands. Plus, the wife made me put cameras all over the house. And it's only 2 hours from us. I've known several peers and family members who did the same

Going see my first grandchild(daughter is 27)next week. And our oldest son(17) is going finish his last 2 years of HS on his own.
