I think it's disingenuous to put this entirely on NiL and transfer rules and ignore the runaway coaching salaries. The threshold for day to day bullshite gets a lot lower when a guy's got $50M in the bank. Head coach at a major program is a grueling year-round job. Especially once you're set and don't need the money.

Kirby Smart and Lincoln Riley are two of them

First of all, Lincoln Riley couldn't carry Kirby's jock strap. Second of all, I would not be surprised to see Kirby to cut and run early. He had some very pointed comments about the state of college football after the Orange Bowl.

Got Kirby pegged for 55-58 max... think hes 48 now.

His heart/head will explode if he coaches longer...

Kirby has aged 20 years over the last 5. He better rattle off a string of them pretty soon if he’s gonna do it.

No way he gets Saban's record. But, if he gets 2-3 more I'll be very happy.

THe transfer portal is the problem. They need to make scholarships more than a one-year commitment, and limit the portal to one transfer without penalties.

I can see that. Makes sense.

Both Riley and Smart have been fairly vocal about the issue.

Heard rumors that Kirby is tired of it all. But he is pretty driven, so it's hard to say with him.

These younger guys do have the option of retiring for a few years and then coming back. Kirby would still be a hot name in five years. Of course, the fact that he played at GA would figure into that, too. Coming back at a different school would be different for him than Riley or Dabo.

I don’t know if Kirby has aged 20 yrs, but he’s damn sure gained 20 pounds or more. And the gray hair is seeping in quickly.

HC at a big time football program puts the years on you quick.

They have generational $ and the sport’s no longer about winning or representing a tradition, just a guaranteed paycheck with a bonus.

Actually, it’s about winning. That’s why folks are willing to pay coaches $75,000,000 to sit on the couch and to fund NIL collectives.

Fans care too much about winning. Way too much. If they would tell all these players and coaches to go frick themselves, things would be “normal.” But no one is willing to sacrifice wins to make a point.

And I don’t have any sympathy for the coaches. Coaches with nine figure contracts is fricking ridiculous too and definitely played a role in players wanting their own money.

Hell, cutting the salaries of coaches to something resembling what a professor makes should be the first step to normalcy. Coaching salaries getting out of hand is where all this really started.

I find that the sport itself is rapidly improving. NIL has allowed a school like Mizzou to attract and keep generational talents like Luther Burden and keep more draft eligible players around for another year as opposed to them running off to the NFL at the first opportunity. The portal has allowed MU to fill spots/improve depth where guys are taking longer to develop than hoped. Finally, we're getting an expanded playoff, which will provide fans of more schools to enjoy a shot at winning it all.

These are all great improvements as far as I'm concerned, so I follow the sport more closely than ever. However, what has become unbearable to me are the TV broadcasts themselves. Cutting game time down, while increasing commercials (including split screen commercials during the games) has resulted in me watching the games themselves less. You can always go back and watch condensed games or highlights after the game on YouTube commercial-free (if you install adblock). Great way to enjoy the great plays without putting up with repeated dumbass insurance commercials.

This is how it is for most 50 year old humans though.

This is exactly where I’m at. Granted I know it sounds disingenuous to say as a Alabama fan I don’t get upset about a loss any more after having 17 yrs of Saban BUT truth is it’s getting boring, the kids don’t care about anything but money and brand(I’d be the same way I’m sure if I was 17) and the idea of community being a large part of college football is largely dead now.

The reason Kelly came here was one last shot at a title and the money
I don’t see him coaching until he’s 70 and he’s already in his 60s
LSU needed a reset and Kelly can lay the foundation

What I don’t like is they already want the fanbase to buy tickets, fund the foundations to buy tickets and pay for parking and concessions but still have no shame wanting more for nil collectives.
It’s insane
