How does Newman starting have any effect on Daniels then?

We now have an Experienced, proven, returning starter at Qb.

He was all of that before he ever came to Georgia.

If Newman stuck around, JTD would have been an injured transfer who had not played a full game since 2018, so it’s a rather big difference.

Had Newman stayed, at best Daniels would be starting his first game in 2 years coming off a knee injury against Clemson.

Instead, he has 4 games and almost 120 pass attempts to go off of heading into that game.

There’s a pretty important difference there.

Yeah, but Newman may’ve cost UGA a chance at a conference and national title in 2020. Sure Daniels getting onto the field late may’ve set the plate for 2021 but nothing is in the bag.

We know in the post-mortem that QB play was the crux of UGA’s two losses in 2020. Newman may not be a star but he was undoubtedly better than Mathis or Bennett. For all you know in 2021 there is some team out there that you have no hope of beating.

Well, he was retarded for going pro after sitting out a season, while none of his other seasons played justified him even being drafted.

He should have played last year.

Off the top of my head... Trey Lance, Penei Sewell, Micah Parsons, Rashawn Slater, and Chase all opted out in 2020 and went in the top 15. This will be a new trend moving forward if you already have enough film for scouts.

Some guys actually fell in the draft because of their play in 2020. Example: CB Shuan Wade from Ohio St was pretty much a 1st round lock before going into the 2020 season. Didnt have to play a down anymore. He initially opted out and decided to play after the Big 10 announced their late start. He struggled in 6-7 games and fell to the 5th round.

Lance - he would not have opted out if they didn't start their season in fricking Feb. The guy is a unicorn and somebody fell in love with him.

Sewell and Slater - already established top tackles in the draft by their senior seasons.

Chase - had one of the best soph seasons a wr could have had. He was actually NFL ready by his junior season.

I guess you got me on Shaun Wade. A handful of guys will have disappointing senior seasons, it's unavoidable.

Newman had a 2nd - 3rd rd grade if he actually had a big year. He opted out in the beginning of fall camp. He's the guy that had alot to prove, and those are the guys I'm talking about. Not individuals that are NFL ready.

I don’t think anyone who opted out benefited from that decision. Might be a few but by and large people fell in the draft or didn’t get drafted.

Several opted out and benefitted greatly. There were like 4 opt outs in the top 15 picks

Rumors of Kirby not giving a black QB a fair shot and preferring a good ole boy were also prevalent. Everyone that’s signed with him has transferred.

Kirby started a black QB in week 1 of 2020.

Yeah but he got pulled soon after. Didn’t really give him a shot. The backup short white guy was awful.

You very clearly never watched Mathis play. He was horrendous both against Arkansas and Florida.

Bennett was far from awful. He was good enough to help uga to another top 7 finish.

Hopefully for these healthy opt guys this will be a fair warning. You cannot exclude an entire season of play when these NFL scouts need that to determine your value to their team.

This season and this season only it shouldn’t be a mark against them. We were in the scariest part of the pandemic when football started, some dudes caught it and developed other lingering health issues, some dudes were afraid of catching it and infecting family and friends, etc. No one was criticizing these guys a few months ago.
