So literally what everyone on tRant told you. Auburn chews threw coaches and spits them out prematurely if they don’t compete for a NC every year. Everyone said no bigger name coach would take the risk without a stupid buyout clause they could retire on. If Kiffin took that job without the big buyout, he’d be fired in three years and have to start back over grinding at an FAU type school. No big coach will take that risk, so you have to settle on rejects like Freeze or some “up and coming” type inexperienced coach.

This shows he is NOT wanting to be at Ole Miss.

I assure you his buy out is not that at Ole Miss

I would’ve been happy with Kiffin or Freeze but Freeze fits Auburn better.

Not what an Auburn beat guy said on the radio in mobile. I think it was Zac blackerby. He said kiffin wanted an out to take the Bama job written in his contract if the job came open and Auburn told him to kick rocks at that lol.

Realistically he has to make sure he has a massive buyout. The only way out of a top program is getting fired, nobody is outbidding them if he’s doing well and he’s not getting another shot in the NFL. When you throw in the fact that he already has 1 strike at a big program, the next one will almost certainly be his last shot.

As long as he can win 8 at OM he isn’t diminishing his stock, if he has bad years they can be explained away by the disadvantages he has at a smaller program. So it makes a lot of sense for him, when he jumps it needs to be the perfect scenario and/or he needs to make sure he has a fat arse buyout.

You must have misheard baw. Kiffin literally has an increased buyout that he has to pay to OM if he goes to any SEC West school.

Good way to explain it.

Kiffin wanted Auburn but Auburn wasn't gonna give a Jimbo buyout for potentially their second choice. Remember AU never gave an offer
Ole Miss was desperate and did give a Jimbo buyout

Simple as

The tricky thing is the west isn't about to get easier.

Cohen pretty much did the same to Leach.

Coaches aren’t widgets, price and ability don’t always have a direct relationship. You’re also taking a gamble no matter who you hire, and for the most part you know where a sitting head coach’s ceiling is. Hiring an up and comer is easily the way to go, you have the benefit of waiting to see results before committing to a huge contract or buyout.

Would you rather be in A&M’s situation, or Texas’? We don’t know if either will work out, either way Texas is going to be out a whole hell of a lot less cash.

What's ironic is that Ole Miss has had more Head Coaches (6) in the past 20 years than Auburn has (5)

Will Auburn fans get together and decide on the reason we still have Kiffin: he was never the top choice, he wanted to leave but his family wouldn’t leave, auburn lost interest after the egg bowl, auburn was going to force a massive buyout from nfl or other team if he left, auburn didn’t want to give him a large buyout if fired.

Nah. We will leave that to you guys.

Probably around the same time when Ole Miss fans can figure out if they actually wanted to keep Lane kiffin, wanted him to leave, wanted him to stay, wanted him to leave, now want him to stay

Occam's razor... reality is usually pretty straightforward.

(1) Auburn's search began with Hugh Freeze but we spoke to and had negotiations with many candidates
(2) Sexton/Kiffin used that discussion to get a Jimbo contract from Ole Miss
(3) Auburn decided on Freeze, though liked Kiffin enough to have serious discussions with him
(4) Everyone got what they wanted so I'm not sure why people are worked up other than the distraction that the whole thing caused OM.
Ole Miss got their coach
Sexton/Kiffin got a one sided Jimbo contract with OM
Auburn got their coach with a fair contract
Freeze got back in the SEC
