He said Kiffin was set to take the job but he wanted a $54M buyout and Auburn said no. I think it worked out better for Auburn getting Freeze.

Yes I think so too.

Glad we didn't pay all of that.

Assuming Kiffin was first choice and that Auburn saw him as a better candidate than Freeze, we should have given it. Maybe times are shifting but there is no reason to think Kiffin wouldn’t turn the program around. Maybe he doesn’t win a championship in years 1-3, but I seriously doubt he would have a Chizik 3-9 year or a Harsin debacle. Kiffin would do enough to earn 5 years and what would his buyout be by then?

Either diminished enough to afford to get rid of him or he’s won so much we extend/increase it.

Sadly A&M has ruined coaching contracts with the Jimbo buyout.

Good to hear people are pushing back a bit.

As a teacher, if I tried to leave a school before my contract was up the school would suspend my license for a year and do everything they could to kill the gig I was going to even if it was in another state.

But yeah let’s pay a coach 10’s of millions of dollars to get rid of them because they suck at their jobs.

I also heard we wanted control of his social media which he balked at.

What is Freeze's buyout?
75% of remaining at any given time so it starts high 20s and goes down from there.

I think coaching contracts are going too far, but comparing them to high school teaching is absurd. There's a tiny handful of people who are even passable coaches, let alone good ones. Scarcity creates value.

So long as it’s public education my taxes are paying for some part of it in some fashion.

All, or virtually all P5 programs utilize private foundations.

Meanwhile, football pays for all the non-revenue sports.

Probably so, because Freeze will be Freeze, and Auburn won't have to pay him a dime when they fire him.

I think his kids were what ultimately killed it, but I'm not surprised that Kiffin asked for a monster buyout. I'm equally not surprised that Auburn wasn't into potentially paying another monster buyout.

I don't know if that's true or not, but God that's funny. No way in hell Kiffin could give up Twitter.
