Unfortunately the Big 10 appears to be the better league going forward and honestly I'm not exactly sure why
It’s obvious to me why.
For the last 30 years, SEC schools would do anything, and everything to win (ie pay players under the table) especially Alabama, who perfected it.
Ohio State was the only Big Ten team over the last 30 years to do anything & everything to win until Harbaugh came back home to Michigan.
Now… that it’s ok for everyone to pay players, most the Big Ten schools are going all in paying players.
NIL has taken away the huge advantage that SEC schools had over everyone else (paying players under the table to play for them).
The Big Ten has better TV contracts than the SEC does (Thanks Sankey). Most have more money than most SEC schools.
The SEC will continue to be powerful and good, but the Big Ten is now equal to the SEC, and may have passed it a bit.

The portal is the issue No paid sport would work like this As long as you are in front of tv they don’t care if anyone shows up
The portal is why I'm no longer in front of the TV. I've gone from watching 80% plus SEC games to maybe two or three a season because I enjoyed watching players develop as a team through their years playing together. The portal ruins that.

It's cool that a Austin commie snowflake does. The original SEC doesn't have cry rooms and safe spaces.

The ability to quit your team at any time and go to a different team ruins discipline and the ability to build a program.
Agreed, actions should have consequences.
One thing that could be done would be for the destination school having to pay the school a player leaves the amount it contributed to the player's NIL.
That might put a limit on how much a player is offered if the destination school has to pay the player AND the school they are leaving.

If you think the players are making bank, look at the "people behind the curtain". They are ruining CFB (and other sports) for a limited few's wealth. Ticket pricing is insane. Beers are $12. Fees, parking, etc... are pricing the average fan out. The really only way to fix it, is turn the channel.

That took cable and streaming prices through the roof. You think it's going to stop there?
My 76 year old dad was not thrilled about having to get a smart tv, amazon prime, and Netflix in addition to cable just to feed his NFL addiction in retirement.

It our insatiable appetite to win - we are crazy and they know it. It’s our own fault. Bama fans would give anything to avoid where they are now after Bowl loss. How much is pain and misery worth?

Is this the end of college football?
Depends
Paying players
Super Conferences
Media issues
Corporate interference
Player injuries
All of this happened about a century ago, then it collapsed and reformed

I suspect that is true but funding of the schools NIL dealing are apparently the best kept secret in college football. I too would love to see a ranking of the teams NIL money spent. I suspect at least 3 of the teams playing today would top the list.

College sports sucks now as a fan
I disagree. It’s just football for me. I remember when MSU would release their roster and I would memorize the newbies names and HS they came from. For the most part, you would see the same players each season until their eligibility was used up. While college football is a mere shell of its former self with the portal and bowl opt outs increasing every year, I have enjoyed watching our other sports. This season’s soccer team had some amazing games and the other sports aren’t affected as much by this new landscape like football is.

Here's the thing.... They need to limit the number of times you can use the portal to 2. Idiots like Denver Harris who portal out 4 times in 4 years should simply not be a thing.
Fixing CFB is pretty frickin simple...
1) Limit the number of years you can play to 6 no matter what (covid, medical, etc)
2) Limit the number of times you can use the portal and not sit out and lose a year of eligibility (I suggest 2)
3) Allow NIL contracts to stipulate years of service so that players cannot become free agents every single season
