While I truly think this is a troll thread (I mean what on here isn’t), I’ll play along. This notion that LSU has vastly underachieved this year really is kind of silly. They have lost to three teams that are all in the top 10, with all three of those on the road (the FSU game was technically a neutral site, but I was there in Orlando and the crowd was 80-20 FSU). All three games were highly competitive if you honestly look at it; LSU was actually ahead at halftime of the FSU game and that game really flipped on its head when Nabors slipped on his route and FSU got the interception and short field and went up two scores. While the defense has been historically bad, and there really is no justifiable excuse for it to be THIS bad, there are at least some mitigating factors. Your best DLman got hurt for the year and the guy who was supposed to be a stud (and was a projected 1st round pick on every mock I saw before the season) has turned out to be an absolute bust. The leader in the secondary was found to have brain cancer and lost for the year. The two guys they thought would be the starting corners have essentially been kicked off the team and the the true freshman who looked pretty good got hurt and is gone. Now a lot of this has been exacerbated by poor coaching in my opinion and clear misses in recruiting and the transfer portal, but again LSU has only lost to three top 10 teams on the road. If the season concludes with an ugly loss to Florida or A&M then I think you can say the team underachieved.

They will average 8-4 or 9-3.
Next year is going to be rough for them though.
That defense

The King has decreed 4 losses for LSU this year.....

On the bright side, LSU’s defense can’t get much worse.

Isn’t Lacy a redshirt senior?
No he entered college in 2020 season, which didnt count. He has 1 more year due to covid season.
Still doesnt really matter, he's a complementary guy. Not a #1 guy. We'll easily have someone else step up in that #1 type role. Got a load of talent there and it's never off the table for us to secure a top portal guy either if we go that route. Got a lot of talent in the 2023 class we brought in and you have guys like Hilton or Anderson who can also take that next step and have lots of talent themselves.

I think LSU will make some strides on defense next year, but the magnitude of their improvement is yet to be determined. I definitely think it will take a new DC - and I'm about 99% confident that they fire House.
Their offense will definitely take a step back next year without JD5. Nuss may be talented, but it won't be a seamless transition, and they lose some weapons at WR.
My biggest concerns if I was an LSU fan would be on Kelly's recruiting. It doesn't seem to be up to the normal LSU standard. This means that reloading may be more difficult.

I mean it's Kelly's second year. If we have a couple more years of the same, we can have this conversation.
Kirby got his arse beat a few times before he started winning championships.
Same with Saban.

As for recruiting, Kelly has been pretty underwhelming there, not bringing in Top 5 classes like Ed O did.
He literally signed a Top 5 class last year. This year's class is currently ranked #8.

2023 recruiting team rankings
LSU had a top 5 class last year. Go back to your fake schoolwork.

BK has done well on the O side and generated some decent gizz. D recruiting has been pretty dismal. He has to fire House for that alone.
Like him or not Ed fired his Rec Coord and his RB coach the day after NSD for whiffing on Cam Akers and Marvin Wilson and generally lazy arse effort. BK needs follow suit on his Def staff…

It will only get worse. No doubt.
The O next year will return to middle of the pack status.
The D will still be bent and broke. Yes the D.

Easily the top recruiting site now. What are you looking at, ESPN, LOL?
Rivals team rankings
Rivals also had LSU at #5. Boy, you are not good at this.

Is easily the best recruiting site running right now. Where do you get your recruiting news? Tom Luginbill?

247 composite has been the standard for a long time

Those 3 WRs make up 92% of all LSU WR receiving yards.
The next time LSU has trouble breaking in receivers will be the first time.

Nussmeier seems like a decent QB, but it won’t be easy with all new receivers. It’s hard to imagine LSU won’t take a significant step back on offense, barring an absolutely insane transfer haul.
Why would transfer receivers be an improvement over the receivers that Nuss already practices with on 2nd team?

On the defensive side, I’m interested to see if LSU fires House. Either way, I expect their defense to be a little better.
A lot of questions will be answered after Aggie.

Kelly is recruiting just fine. His classes are right on par with LSU's average class rank going back to Saban's first year.
D-Line needs to tighten up, that's it.

The one that had LSU with the #6 class last year. You should probably abandon your shitty argument and take the loss on this one.

On3 is on the rise; however, 247Sports and Rivals have the best recruiting sites/rankings.
The guy who now runs On3 (Shannon Terry) used to be at the above two and he's trying hard to get them up to par. Not there, yet, but he's doing a good job.
Right now, 247 & Rivals are the most respected.
