This is true to a certain degree but people said the same about Paul Bryant. At some point you must give the Bama program credit for being able to bring in coaches that are a cut above the rest and doing whatever it takes to keep them there.

Yes but keep in mind that it’s all Saban and not Bama. He’d be doing the same thing at any big time program.

Don't do this to yourself. Admitting how good they have been is somewhat cathartic, give it a try. The jealousy and anger will only cause hair loss.

One big difference between Saban at Bama and Saban at LSU is he started at Bama with a lot more credibility and that helped recruiting, which is the lifeblood of any college program.
So true. LSU made Saban a household name in the CFB world. When he left Miami for Bama everyone knew the SEC was in trouble.

Both are great for each other, but Bama needs Saban more than Saban needs Bama.

They know it deep down. That won't stop them from cannibalizing the next guy. They will eat Dabo just as fast (if not more so) than any old Joe.

Their '88 team was the best team in country IMO and would've made the a BCS playoff and Bama wouldnt have won 2 of their NC's if you applied 80's standards. (11 and 17) so Miami is more than just being in the conversation.

They also did it with 3 different HC's which is even more remarkable. You think Bama could do the same had Saban left after 3 years?

2011 #2 Bama beat #1 LSU in a bowl game. Wtf are you talking about?

So we apply current standards to one team, and un-apply them from the team that destroyed your soul, in order for you to attempt to make your case

Cool

Had Saban stayed at LSU he may have won another title or 2. But there would have been plenty of 8 win seasons in there too. Alabama made Saban elite.

He definitely would've won another title with LSU in 06.

Here is the answer to your question. No other school even close. Three year (and counting) separation between #1 and #2.

From 2005-2013 Les Miles had one 8 win season, one 9 win season and seven seasons with 10 or more wins, but Saban would have had "plenty" 8 win seasons. Interesting.

Alabama made Saban elite.

But they couldn't make elite- Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, Gene Stallings, Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione and Mike Shula? Once again, interesting.

No, THIS is the combo of Bama AND Saban. This success happened at Bama before in the 60s and 70s. That may have been the greatest 20 year stretch in history.

Ron Turcotte rode both Riva Ridge and Secretariat, but I wouldn't say Riva Ridge and Secratariat were lucky to have been ridden by Ron Turcotte. I would say Ron Turcotte was lucky to have had ridden Riva Ridge and Secretariat.

Bama's had arguably the two best coaches in CFB history in Bryant and Saban - and in between Bryant and Saban was quite a bit of shite. Don't get me wrong... Bama's a great program but they were damn lucky to have had those two coaches. That's especially true with Saban, who (if things had turned out just slightly different) might have spent 25+ years whipping Bama's arse every season instead of winning national titles for them like he is now.

Perkins, Curry, Stallings, DuBose, Franchione, Price and Shula are coaches that were a "cut above the rest"? Let's face it. The stars aligned with Saban. After, what, five straight losses to Auburn and a bunch of mediocrity (and that might be a generous term) Bama was absolutely desperate for a big hire. It just so happened that Saban was looking to get back into the college game at the same time.

It worked out great for both, but if Saban had gone to some other college program and Bama had hired some other coach I would put my money on Saban having a helluva lot more success than Bama over the last decade.

All had ten win seasons. Curry, Stallings, and Dubose won SEC titles. Stallings won a national title. Hardly elite but certainly not the depths of dispair many programs find themselves in during the inevitable downturns.

Bama has had 4 absolutely elite head coaches and the top 2 ever

No other program can touch that

Stallings resume would be considered elite at 95% of schools

Alabama has had 5 head coaches win national titles at Alabama. 4 out of the 5 won multiple titles, Coach Stallings only won one....

So when Coach Saban leaves, Alabama will find another head coach that will win national titles (plural)..

In terms of championships, dominance, securing elite 5-Star talent, instructing that elite talent to perform as a cohesive and effective unit, training within the context of the most advanced conditioning and medical programs to this point in human history, and prevailing consistently over very talented parity in the era of scholarship limits to 85, it's simply unprecedented, you could definitely make the argument this iteration of the Alabama football program is the greatest ever.

With scholarship limits compared to Bryant yrs when you could sign as many as you wanted it is impressive. As a Bama fan I wonder how many LSU would have had he stayed there? Thank God he had the NFL itch & Hizinga persuasion.
