Would the SEC be better off going with no divisions, top 2 teams play in Atlanta?

Not sure the best approach to scheduling, but one perma rival to preserve an annual rivalry and then evenly cycling through the other 12 opponents?

There is nothing wrong with either model, the only reason the SEC didn't get two teams into the playoff was because Georgia got fricked in the arse by LSU to the tune of 20 points.

No, we clearly have the best model.

Nothing to do with this year’s result. More to do with all the times where a weak division winner is playing in the CCG and is a game away from winning it.

Why should a 8-4 or 7-5 unranked team for a play conference title? The Big XII might have it right with the top 2 teams overall.

The divisional model works best when the divisions are balanced.

When the divisions are woefully unbalanced, the divisional model sucks.

Case in point, the Big 10. What a woefully unbalanced divisional split they have.

I'd rather see a 9 game conference schedule without divisions. Every SEC player with a full career should be able to play in every SEC stadium. But that's unrealistic until there's an 8 team playoff with an automatic power 5 conference championship winner spot.

Here are the upsets in conference title games. Games that kept a team out of a potential national championship game are in bold.

SEC

1994: #6 Florida over #3 Alabama
1999: #7 Alabama over #5 Florida
2001: #21 LSU over #2 Tennessee
2005: #13 Georgia over #3 LSU
2008: #2 Florida over #1 Alabama

Big 12

1996: UR t.u. over #3 Nebraska
1998: #10 Texas A&M over #2 Kansas State
2001: #9 Colorado over #3 t.u.
2003: #13 Kansas State over #1 Oklahoma (It SHOULD have)
*2007: #9 Oklahoma over #1 Missouri (OU was actually favored)

Big Ten

2012: UR Wisconsin over #12 Nebraska
2013: #10 Michigan State over #2 Ohio State
2016: #8 Penn State over #6 Wisconsin
*2017: #8 Ohio State over #3 Wisconsin (OSU was favored)

ACC

2005: #22 Florida State over #5 Virginia Tech
2008: #25 Virginia Tech over #16 Boston College
2011: #21 Clemson over #5 Virginia Tech

The PAC 12 favorite has won every title game

No. If you already play everybody yearly...WHY repeat that game?
Also, if Team A wins the reg. game & Team B the rematch...who should go?

The B12 model is horrible. It is very difficult to beat anyone twice if the teams are relatively even. You are more likely to get someone knocked out of the playoffs than in.

OU had a lot more offense than Texass and were able to pull it off this year. Had OU beat Texass in the first meeting I think OU probably loses in the CG and B12 are out of CFP.

They all really suck

Name one B1G team not named Ohio State that has played in a BCS or CFP Championship game?

Exactly, Mizzou playing in two conference title games is enough evidence that you don't always get the two best teams.

Anyone who has ever even once complained about Bama's 2011 NC should consider the Big XII CCG model the worst thing ever to happen.

It sucks....yes it just happened to work this year.

But in other years the best team will have to beat the second best team twice.

That just sucks.

Yea, but we have to kick 4 teams out so we can play a round robin.

Welp, think we know who those 4 are.

Really only three since LSU has already volunteered.

2014 was the year the Big Ten screwed up their championship game.

Big 10 divisions, prior to 2014:

Michigan
Michigan St.
Northwestern
Nebraska
Iowa
Minnesota

Ohio State
Penn State
Illinois
Indiana
Purdue
Wisconsin.

Since 2014:

Ohio State
Michigan
Michigan State
Penn State
Maryland
Rutgers
Indiana

Nebraska
Iowa
Illinois
Northwestern
Wisconsin
Indiana
Purdue

No surprise that the West has yet to win a game since they realigned.

I say play everyone and at the end of the year the team with the best record is conference champ.

Then how many conferences are you going to have & how many members?
