That if Muschamp with no HC experience was the top candidate then LSU is clearly a better job than UF
I mean Herman's HC experience is in the AAC and this year has been a disappointment.

And if you miss on him, you'll be scrambling for the Fedoras of the world.

The HC market not being great doesn't make LSU (or UF when we hired Muschamp) a worse program

But if after being turned down by coaches at MAC, ACC, AAC, SOB, REC, NAIA, D-II, D-III, etc. schools, suppose you end up with a coach who hasn't had a head coaching job for 10 years? One who has had no offers of a HC job, was unemployed as a coach for years in any capacity until this year, and is not even a coordinator. Will that settle the question of "is LSU a top job?"

That link doesn't really indicate anything about what the best jobs are in the country, but just looking at the list, I'd agree all of those places are better jobs than LSU save USC, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Penn State.

Texas A&M, Florida, and Clemson are further down that list and I'd argue they're all at least as good as the LSU job.

I think LSU is 3-6 just because of the talent in the state with no other major colleges in state. Also factor in tradition, atmosphere etc. It's legit.

Alabama will be a end job for a generation after Saban leaves. The bloom will last maybe three years and then it's back to the median. Coaches will avoid this job like herpes. Nobody will ever meet expectations and the fans will make it insufferable.

Top 10 imho:

1. USC. They own the West Coast.
2. Texas. Way too many attributes to deny. 1a.
3. Ohio State.
4 LSU. Unique recruiting, geographic and cultural advantage.
5. Oklahoma
6. Florida.
7. Georgia.
8. Alabama (history and culture are number one but a post Saban shitfest awaits).
9. Texas A&M sleeping giant. Everything but the Coach.
10.Michigan. FSU.

In July you have to take whatever you can get. He did his job and I thank him for his service.

How do you measure this? Ask this question... do very many coaches actually salivate about getting the LSU job? Apparently not...

If LSU was a top job, coaches at other "lesser" schools such as Houston, Memphis, FSU, North Carolina, Clemson, would be standing in line for the job. They aren't.

LSU is about on the same level as any SEC team not named Alabama, Florida, Georgia or Texas A&M. Honestly, most top young coaches would rather go to Stanford, UCLA, even Virginia than come to LSU for a lot of reasons. It probably is a top 25 "job" however.

It's a toss up between LSU and Ohio State at that #1 spot.

These two schools are uniquely the only power 5 teams in their entire state.

No LSU isn't a top 10 job. Don't get being a top 10 job and a top 10 program confused.

My reasons.
* Have to compete with Bama to even win the west.
* A&M has the largest athletic budget in the country and has more resources.
* Many schools have a much easier path to a NC than LSU. FSU, Texas, OU, USC, Oregon etc.

I would say LSU is arguably the 5th or 6th best job in the SEC. I would rank Bama, A&M, Florida and Tennessee as better jobs and maybe even Georgia.
What ever of those East schools can get it figured out the fastest has a much easier road to the SECCG and a spot at one of the 4 playoff spots.
Lsu is the 3rd best job in the west.

I wouldn't say Florida is a better job.

I see them as this
Alabama
Ohio State
Mich
Texas
Oklahoma
Southern Cal
Notre Dame
Nebraska
Penn State

Everybody else is somewhere behind.

What seperates these schools. Sure they have money, facilities, support, etc.

The biggest thing is they are national brands built on history. They can go into any state and get the best players.

The teams not on this list can not go into any state and take the best players.

It's NATIONAL brands vs REGIONAL brands.

1. USC. They own the West Coast.---True, but behind Bama
2. Texas. Way too many attributes to deny. 1a.--True ,but behind Bama.
3. Ohio State. ----Good job but behind Bama
4 LSU. Unique recruiting, geographic and cultural advantage.----Not sure why this is an advantage. Not everybody is over the moon over gumbo and etoufee. Again, LSU fans generally over estimate how everybody else sees them.
5. Oklahoma--Yes, maybe a tad high.
6. Florida---No, It takes the perfect coach to win there
7. Georgia---What makes you think this? Top 20 job for sure
8. Alabama (history and culture are number one but a post Saban shitfest awaits). ---Best job in America..period. Resources, name, location, history. EVERYTHING sets up perfectly.
9. Texas A&M sleeping giant. Everything but the Coach.mmmmm, maybe. Haven't ever done it so don't think they will.
10.Michigan. FSU.----Mich yes, FSU no.

All of it depends on the coach, the money and the timing. Is Texas the #1 job in the country? It was for Herman and opened at an opportune time. And some coaches are more than comfortable at their non-elite schools. Is Gonzaga a top 10 basketball program? It is to Mark Few.
