Texas had a great ten year run in the 60s. Nothing before then or since. TAMU, as previously stated, hasn't won a natty since Hitler. Yeah, they're capable. Got more money than God, I've heard.

No not new to sports and especially not College football as I've been watching since late 60s, kid. I guess we'll have to disagree about Florida's and FSU's chances what with new coaches and poor NIL performance. At least 2 of the Texas teams listed below will make the 2026 CFP. Maybe, maybe one from Florida will make it, and that will be Miami if they do.
Carry on.

For reference on current status of teams in discussion.....
Florida
2023 5-7
2024 8-5
2025 4-8

Florida St.
2023 13-1
2024 2-10
2025 5-7

Miami
2023 7-6
2024 10-3
2025 13-3

Texas
2023 12-2
2024 13-3
2025 10-3

A&M
2023 7-6
2024 8-5
2025 11-2

Tech
2023 7-6
2024 8-5
2025 12-2

SMU
2023 11-3
2024 11-3
2025 9-4

Lets be honest...there is no way you think Rice and SMU and Baylor compete with Texas that much for top end talent...at all..they can try...but Texas or Texas A&M are probably the only teams competing for top talent reasonably within the State..unless Texas Tech finally to put their foot on the gas pedal.

The question was about football not meat judging.

I agree but there are almost twice the d1 football programs in Texas 21 as Florida 11 and that talent gets dispersed. Top end talent Texas and atm doesn’t worry about rice but depth pieces it does factor in

Damn near anyone can compete for a natty, and quickly. We just saw Indiana win one in their coach's 2nd year and he made a pretty good run in his first year. Indiana. Let that sink in.

Alabama can for sure. That’s been shown in football. There was a time not long ago.. where bama or Auburn were in 6 or 7 straight national championship games. No other state can say that for two schools. Their baseball programs both made it to the Supers, the basketball teams are consistently in the elite 8 or even final 4, and golf between the two schools have 4 NC’s. In the last 20 years.

5/7 national titles were won against Nebraska and Oklahoma.

Oklahoma has had to play each Florida team in Miami (Orange Bowl) for the national championship three times.... they went 1-2.

Nebraska had to play Miami twice... and FSU once in the Orange Bowl... They lost all three times.

Moral to the story... It is tough to beat a Florida team in the Orange Bowl when they are really good.

Meanwhile...LSU has NEVER won an NC when they didn't play in the Sugar Bowl.

SMU reminds me of Doc Holiday talking to Johnny Ringo right before he kills him.

"But this time ... its legal".

Not gonna' lie. Kinda' cheering for SMU.

You could equally laugh at Florida and Florida St., more so actually.

Texas, Texas A&M, SMU, and Texas Tech have all been in the CFP in the last 2 years.

Yeah...OP thinks its the 1990s.

Proof is in the pudding...based on the last 5 years, Texas quite easily trumps Florida. UF isn't even in the conversation of relevant in recent memory....Over the last five college football seasons (2021–2025), the Florida Gators compiled an overall record of 27-35.

I think it went a little deeper than that. FSU and Miami weren’t just good. The strength of their defensive fronts was stylistically a great neutralizer for the Nebraska and Oklahoma offenses of the era.

FSU and Miami were the rock to Nebraska and Oklahoma’s scissors and just possessed the right counter to their modus operandi out of the I and wishbone.

Read the news hillbilly. The Germans are rearming and an Austrian has an increasingly good chance of becoming Prime Minister.

Aggies reading the stars for WWII in case the alignment of events gives them a chance at another title lol

Yeah, not Oklahoma for recruiting. I went to Oklahoma current roster and counted 32 Texans (mostly all HS), and 21 Oklahomans.
Of course Oklahoma is a hotbed for Texas high school recruits. Excellent program, history, and equal distance from the DFW metroplex as Texas. Easy for parents to see their kids play and just the right distance away from home.
