You could equally laugh at Florida and Florida St., more so actually.

Texas, Texas A&M, SMU, and Texas Tech have all been in the CFP in the last 2 years. Only Miami from Florida. Texas was also a semi finalist in 2023, nothing from Florida. Texas went to same level 2 years ago that Miami did last year.

Florida and FSU have a chance....wtf are you new to sports or something? Both UF and FSU have the money, the fanbases, etc to win. They have been lacking a very, very key role. Decent coaching. Good coaching is very much needed in CFB.

The OP alluded to states that have teams that are capable of winning a natty, Texas is capable but I’d agree Florida is more capable. Texas is likely second given NIL. Name another state with the amount of teams with money with advantages like Texas? Tech can cake walk in the big 12, Texas and atm have shown they can make it, SMU can spend and make the playoffs.

And they don’t have it yet. I think It’s the most important part of a team.

Florida teams have won hardware but the game has changed. I don’t think Florida schools have money like Texas schools but you have a much better per capita recruiting ground to make up for it. That mattered pre NIL we will see if it does in this new era.

Either way both states havent won squat in the nil era and my fellow longhorn was just pointing out that to win you have to make the playoffs and Texas schools have actually done that unlike Florida schools (except Miami). It’s not about participation trophies I think it’s about showing the ability to get there gives you the ability to win a natty. At some point though you have to produce a natty otherwise I’d agree it’s irrelevant

Three things helped FSU and Miami in the glory years (1983-2001) that won’t be the same again:

1. They had a favorable style matchup against the Nebraska and Oklahoma teams of the era. 12-3 against those two programs from 1983-2001, and one of those losses was long after OU changed its offensive philosophy. Held to an average of 16.6 ppg after putting up video game numbers every year against the Big 8.

5/7 national titles were won against Nebraska and Oklahoma.

FSU probably would have won it in 1996 too if Texas hadn’t upset Nebraska and they didn’t have a rematch against Florida after they discovered the shotgun. Throwing the ball on Peter Boulware and Reinard Wilson is one thing. Running on them is another.

Possibly the same for 1997 too.
