Just sets a bad precedent. Our AD is over here making quality hires and it's costing us money when bad AD's drive up the price of doing business.

Yes. Bama has a lot of revenue. But if AJ is getting $3M per, yall overpaid by about $1M/yr. At least.

When you look at how badly they overpaid Grant and that they were going to throw the same money at the State of Kansas' Mark Gottfried, what did you expect? When you run a ridiculous coaching search like they did and leak your insane offer to a guy you won't get, that's what happens.

Exactly why I said I can see why it would be a concern to you more than it would be a concern to Alabama.

Plus you owed Grant a little over 4 million on the buyout. Pretty nice chunk of change for any school.

And this bothers you? Why?

The media in Alabama is already putting out the spin to make it seem like AJ was a highly coveted coach. Claiming his name was being mentioned for Texas and other jobs. Forget that AJ tried to throw his own name out there for the Texas job and they didn't give him the time of day

Revenue is great, squandering it is a good way to erode your advantage, though.

I'm getting the feeling if the Petite General didn't come, they would have given $3 million to Paul Silas or Lenny Wilkens.

I don't think OP is referring to financial woes of Alabama's AD

I think it's really just that Johnson does not deserve 3M dollars.

Don't think he's actually concerned

seems to just want to point and laugh at what is surely an overpayment

Exactly. Avery Johnson is an entry level college coach.

I'm hoping he sent Cuban and Dirk a nice fruit basket.

You always want to be the second person to interview at Alabama. You get what the actual good hire would have gotten, but you don't have to be nearly as qualified.

You might consider the value inherent in hiring an undocumented illegal-alien head coach.

Just a suggestion.
