Gus was 1-2 against Jimbo, on a 2 game losing streak, and it was unlikely to get better.

Who was a threat to come take Gus from you when you gave him 7 years?

Just ignore her. She’s upset because people have more confidence in an unknown from the MWC to win the SEC than they do in Jimbo at A&M.
That’s the reality of a program like A&M’s.

I stand corrected.

I don't know what went down there.
I do know that AU must have plenty of $$ to buy Gus out and hire who they want.
THAT is what chaps bammer boosters and their REC.

Told them before game Aggies were getting Gus fired.

Gus was getting paid either way. That was a mistake made by the prior admin. Firing him didn’t change that. People that keep regurgitating this talking point don’t understand business or contracts.
I don’t think it takes Jack Welch to understand the choice.
The issue has much less to do with WHETHER to fire him than it does planning for the process. By letting this drag out with even a couple “swing and a miss”’offers, they’ve made the program look haphazard and have set the actual hire up to be a “what was left” guy. He will always have that baggage now, unless he just knocks it out of the park.

bullshite.
In a league like this, you could avergae 9 win seasons and even win the division every few years, but still be the guy who seems to always come in 2nd or 3rd. By the standards of almost any other conference, you’d be fine. Here, you’ll be the guy who’s always second best because that’s how he was hired.
You don’t think alums will fire up that whisper campaign after too many years of that?

None of what you said makes his post bull shite.

This is all very laughable. Are you twelve?

That sounds like a plot in Game of Thrones.
It also sounds like a bunch of bullshite being spewed by a site owned by an alabama grad............who is covering their arse because they put a lot of BS out during the search.

If that’s true thank god they didn’t cave to the pressure of hiring Steele. I’d take him back as a D coordinator but no way as HC.

I dont know what is worse. The fact that some dumbass made up some of those stories or the fact that some of you dumbasses actually believed them

This is the total truth.
These men who coach in the SEC have jobs where you either win or go home.

So Auburn is basically run like a standard dysfunctional First Baptist Church.

This seems a little too good to be the whole story. I’m pretty sure state jobs have interview requirements anyway. Unless football coaches are an exception they can’t just give someone the job without at least getting some token interviews.
Football coach isn’t a merit system job like a regular old state employee. There is no ranked list of eligible applicants. Just like the agency heads that make up a governor’s cabinet, the university can make their own rules for that position.
As far as the story goes, it is likely as much rumor as everything else you read on tRant. Al.com isn’t known for truthful and accurate reporting. The only parts that ring really true are that some money guys wanted Steele and the backlash led them to rethink it.
Who knows about the rest and it doesn’t matter. If the new guy bombs, Greene would be on the hot seat whether he bucked the money guys or not. That’s what happens anywhere when it turns out you wasted $30 mil.
