It sounds like Steele’s binder wasn’t very impressive. If you’re going to plot a coup, you better come with some big arse binders.

As horrifying as the Chad Morris error was it silenced the big money boosters at Arkansas for a while.

They had forced out Jeff Long (once we found out about his creative accounting I agree he needed to go) and JCP was more than eager to pull the trigger on Bert.

The problem was afterwards. The PTB wanted Gus. JCP evidently wanted Lane Kiffin (as rumor has it). Well they didn't get Gus. But both Gus and one member of the big money booster club, Jerry Jones, just loved Chad Morris.

So we got him. The worst coach in Arkansas history.

It effectively emasculated the big money donors for years. Their handpicked guy will wind up on the Mt. Rushmore of worst SEC coaches of all time.

I suspect there was a power struggle at Auburn and that the big money boosters did want Steele, because there was a lot of hype about him being the new coach. Until the fans lost their shite. If Harsin is a complete failure they will almost certainly take out their anger on Green but we will have to see what happens.

AU never had interest in Clark. He reached out, we declined. Same with Sark.
So your bu boosters had no desire to promote Steele? They never pushed their weight and influence in the search process?

I’m sure it’s nice to know the Good Old Boy network at Auburn is gone a forgotten once and for all.

Cook has long wanted to take Auburn in a politically liberal direction, and the boosters have been the brake on that. So, Game of Thrones indeed.

This seems a little too good to be the whole story. I’m pretty sure state jobs have interview requirements anyway. Unless football coaches are an exception they can’t just give someone the job without at least getting some token interviews.

With the first 2 coming with a drunken con man as our coach.

Gus was 1-2 against Jimbo, on a 2 game losing streak, and it was unlikely to get better.

For how much Jerry Jones involves himself in the game of football, he seems to not understand the game at all.

There may have been someone out there wanting him, but the people in power (Greene and Gouge) never entertained it.

Yep at some point I don’t care if you pull Curly Hellman out of retirement and give him the job just to run the boosters nose in it. Let it burn then build it back up.

Auburn is a ham sandwich at a banquet. Trying to use their Bham News to cover up their PR failure.

Yep the got the man they were after from day 1 and the rest of those only the list never got an offer.

So was the Oregon coach ever in the mix and did he receive an offer?

I suspect, and the Dallas Cowboys of late confirms, that he is one of those people that knew a tremendous amount about something... 35 years ago. Now he is helplessly behind the times but can't admit it. He is a living dinosaur.

Firing Jay Jacobs finally paid dividends. He would’ve settled for Steele.

Gus was getting paid either way. That was a mistake made by the prior admin. Firing him didn’t change that. People that keep regurgitating this talking point don’t understand business or contracts.

Who was a threat to come take Gus from you when you gave him 7 years? Who was going to take Muschamp when Ray Tanner gave him a new contract? I hope we don't let Sexton screw us like AU did.
