Why not keep the coach who lead Miss State to a top 4 finish? That had to be one of Miss State's best season to go along with the coaching situation.

Honestly, I'm not sure how to react to this hire. I went and looked at his coaching history. I think he has nice and quality experience as an assistant, but going from the Big 10 to the SEC as a head coach is going to be a pretty big leap.

We've all at least wondered this same thing.

I'll trust Cohen on this. Nobody wants MSU baseball to win more than John Cohen, and nobody knows Gary Henderson better than Cohen.

I’ve known about Lemonis since his time at Louisville, where he put together the #1 recruiting class twice in 5 years. He is herald as one of the best recruiters by many including Kendall Rogers, who everyone on this board has pumped as the know all guy in regards to this coaching search.

ETA: At the end of the day, it’s a hire that will definitely take time to see if his success will come to fruition, but Cohen is a great baseball mind and has already had two fantastic hires in his time as an AD. I have faith that he made the best possible decision for MSU.

. I don't understand all the MSU guys praising this guy,

Might as well get on board, it's done. We'll see how it turns out. One thing I can promise you, no one on this board knows how he will do at State. Another thing to watch is who we hire as a pitching coach, and who gets on campus. Until we can get better pitching depth we will never win all the marbles at Omaha, regardless of who the HC is.

We now have an IB (intense basterd) for AD and RB (round belly) for HC. I'm stoked. now all we need is a NC for the team.

Y'all came within one game of the CWS final and you don't hire Henderson. Bold strategy Bulldogs, we'll see how that's works out for ya.

You’re just mad we didn’t pull an Ed O and make a long term decision based on what happened over a span of 8 weeks.

You posted that if MSU won the NC with Henderson "not a single fan would complain about hiring Henderson".

But because he lost to a better OSU team now it is an "Ed O" type hire?

Also, whos to say the MSU didn't make an "Ed O" type hire with Chris Lemoins? The main reason I have seen people say they like the hire is because of his recruiting. Actually that is very similar to a reason that Ed O was hired at LSU.

That’s exactly the point I made. Thanks for reiterating it for me.

No, y'all just struck out with all the major candidates your AD promised you would hire and, instead, hired a guy who has never coached anywhere near MS State for his recruiting, an area y'all weren't struggling with to start. Not to mention, you now have no coaches on staff to handle pitching. Lemonis was a hitting coach and recruiter as an assistant at Louisville and the one coach he retained at State is your hitting coach and head recruiter.

Henderson actually complimented the rest of your staff better IMO, as his experience was coaching pitching and recruiting. And it's nothing like Orgeron. Henderson actually won more than the guy before him. Orgeron merely put a band-aid on LSU's season

You know good and well if this was Cohen's #1 target all along, you would have been less than inspired. I don't think it's a terrible hire, but let's not pretend like the majority of you had even heard of him before today.

This^^. Most of tRanters couldn’t care less about baseball. Me included. Even the successful baseball schools can’t even draw 10,000 people to an event.

Glad for the fans of MSU if this guy is good though!

It's not terrible, but he is not great. It's like Stansbury- after the research I've done, I've seen people that know about Lemonis say that he is a very good recruiter, but an average game coach.

Where is the head coach that led them to the World Series going? Another job or retiring?

Explain to me how Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry wasn't considered? The man swept Miss. St., went 44-18 last year, and does it in vastly inferior facilities...

...that's the guy Cohen should have hired.
