Cohen bragged about the stable of coaches interested in this job. He said the coach would have "serious college baseball experience as a head coach."

Then you hire a guy that's gone 6th, t-3rd, 6th, 5th in the 6th best conference (and the conference is closer to 11th best than the 5th best). He's 4-6 in NCAA play. N

He's also recruited to northern schools (Louisville considered northern by most baseball people). He has never recruited in the south which is a whole different thing.

Thank goodness you rode Gary Henderson out of town for him.

What am I missing? Why not keep the current staff in place. You know, CWS appearance and all.

This guy has lived in Mississippi before. He has connections across the entire country. Like others have said, his in game coaching is skeptical, but he and JG are easily the best recruiting duo in the entire country. I think it was a solid hire. The whole, “hasn’t recruited the south” is such a dumbass talking point these days. Moorhead is proving everyone wrong in that aspect right now. If you can recruit, you can recruit. Simple as that.

IMO, you can’t make a long term decision based on short term results.

We need long term stability. That’s not hiring the interim coach who had a great few months. Gary has retired before citing he needed to step away from the game. We do not need an older coach who has lost his passion for the game already. Need a younger guy that’s relentless in recruiting and will be here for the long haul

Let it be known, this man has never won a regional as a head coach.

And this is what kills me. You heard about this guy like 5 minutes ago and now have declared him the best recruiting guy in the nation.

Does it take stellar recruiting to go 6th, 3rd, 6th, 5th in the 6th best league? Stellar recruiting to go 4-6 in the NCAA tourney?

Lemonis went 8-14 this year against top 50 teams. But ... elite recruiter!

I'm with you. I don't understand all the MSU guys praising this guy, based on what? Cohen fell short of his promise. Of course, it's hard not to trust an AD that has been to the CWS as a head coach, but it doesn't add up to me. If we don't at least equal this year's performance next year, Cohen needs to be called to the carpet.

If you don't get one game away from the CWS finals? That's a bit extreme

It's my understanding that the players have been aware of this hire for the past month.

So you're saying the new coach needs to get within 3 games of winning the national championship? Sounds a bit stern, iyam

I don't buy that. The players were saying, at the World Series, they were hoping your staff would stay intact.

And it sounds like the staff may stay intact.

I've seen reports of Jake Gautreau staying. Maybe Henderson goes back to what he was doing before?

Edit: a CWS appearance. Just found out after posting that Henderson was NEVER considered for the job. Something to do with Kentucky and possible skeletons in the closet, not exactly sure.
