Wait until it goes to 24 teams. No way all the AD's on the selection committee could watch even 25% of the games.

Is that this season or in 2027?

The Next Round
@NextRoundLive
What would it look like long term if there were a 24-team CFB Playoff?
*IF* the CFP had been 24 teams from the start in 2014, 80 different teams would've made an appearance over the last 12 seasons.

I have already lost a lot of interest in cfb. If they do go to 24 I am out.
At least we still have baseball.

Ole Miss with 6 playoff appearances and LSU with 8. #Just different.

I will still watch but significantly less. It will take marquee matchups and I’ll tune in only if Texas is in the final 8.
Only way to fight this is for us to stop watching at a serious clip

People think it’s going to include more lower tier teams …. It will not because if they are teams with 3-4 losses in sec it will override any 2 loss non power four team. What we are gojng to get is more big ten and sec teams making the playoffs . We are going to have so many conference on conference matchups it’s like why the frick do we even call it a playoff ? Notice how the big ten never has to play the other top big tens till the last few rounds. The big 10 bracket has really been set up well the last for years for the playoff .

Everyone complains about every playoff selection.

No one watches all the games in any sport.

That's fair, but i still think it is better than these crappy little bowl games where all the top players opt out.

It’s more football. What’s the problem?
Posted on 5/16/26 at 9:30 pm to ColoradoElkHerd
About one third of Power 4 teams would make it ever year. It's complete bullshite.

And who OP’s coach for these six hypothetical playoff appearances?

The problem is obviously people don’t want to lessen the tradition of such bowls as the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl presented by Gin & Juice by Dre and Snoop, and the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl, or the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

That’s fair point too. If that’s the comparison I’d take it. It just seriously diminishes the regular season

the appeal of CFB historically has always been the importance of those annual rivalries
now they are essentially meaningless

This is maybe the worst argument ever. Do you think A&M didn't care about losing to Texas because they were already in the playoffs last season?
Come on man. Just look at other sports that play way more game and have way more teams in the post season. The regualar season games still matter.
Just watch the Florida vs Miami baseball series at the beginning of the baseball season. You would think the fans are about to fight at any moment. The regular season will always matter. Look at the UF vs FSU baseball games. They have been switched over to mid-week games and FSU brought the pep band...to a baseball game on a Tuesday.
We are getting rid of some shitty bowl games and replacing them with games that matter.
And just wait, the little teams will knock off some power 4 teams, just like when Boise State broke through in the Fiesta Bowl.

I will add this guy's stats as well to the folks who think too many teams are invited to the NCAA FBS playoffs.

The objective is to determine a national champion. If a team can't get into the top 12 they don't deserve to play for NC.
Would much rather have committee concentrate on determining the top 12 and doing a better job of getting that right. Also need to start penalizing these teams coasting through a very easy regular season schedule.
It is a lot tougher to compete in the post season if you have been getting the hell knocked out of you all regular season like the SEC does.
