sometimes sure. Last season was the first time in 30+ years that I didn't watch every game.
I'm not sure if it's NIL/Portal or that other things are just more important now but I'm not as passionate about it as I used to be.

Still love college baseball, however.

ND will be able to pout their way in every year with 24 teams.

I wonder if OU would have ever managed to win a playoff game in any of those years

You guys are funny. And yet again, we had the every thread ole reliable “the SEC is so tough that it causes us to suck in the playoffs” comment. Kudos for consistency.

And this idea that it hurts rivalry is a joke. There will be plenty of rivalry games IN THE PLAYOFFS. This idea of rivalries don’t just disappear due to a playoff. We just watched the Yankees-Mets play 3 meaningless games this past weekend and the fans loved it. We see the Redskins play the Cowboys twice a year and they have played several times in the playoffs.

You guys keep saying things like you’ll stop watching but we all know that’s just a lie. When Bama plays Auburn in a semi final game you’ll watch. When Florida plays FSU in a quarterfinal game you’ll watch. When Pitt plays Penn State in a first round game you’ll watch.

mportance of those annual rivalries now they are essentially meaningless

Counterpoint: 2025 Iron Bowl

Auburn has already fired their coach
Bama is playing for a CFP berth and trip to Atlanta.

If Bama loses there’s no way DeBoer gets extended and probably gets a monster offer to coach at Michigan.

Instead with a broken QB and an offense missing or playing 7 injured players Bama finds a way to win in the 4Q against a vicious home crowd in a one score game at night.

I’m sorry, you can say what you want about CFB but the prime rivalry games are still what they were before, if yours aren’t it’s more a reflection on your school than it is CFB.

I have already lost a lot of interest in cfb. If they do go to 24 I am out.

I don't think you are alone...at least with waning interest. I can only speak for myself but I don't listen to any sports talk radio or watch any CFB gurus on TV or youtube anymore. Ill follow UGA and most of the rest of the conference but I have certainly lost interest. Some of it is just aging....lot of shite to do on fall Saturdays other than watch a bunch of 20 year old millionaires play football. I think the game is waaaaaaayyyyyyy over exposed. I know ratings are not indicative of this BUT I also think a gracious plenty of the TVs tuned in are background noise while people do other shite. I don't think nearly as many people can tell you who is playing 2 weeks from this Saturday or who the coach is at some school in a conference their team is in like CFB fans used to be able to do. I'd bet at least 75% of the people withing ear shot of a TV tuned into a CFB couldn't tell you what the down and distance to gain was at a given point during the game....its just background noise in sports bars and on patios and even in living rooms while the "viewers" are doing something else.

No...CFB was great because every week mattered. Now the reg season is pretty much useless...24 teams is well beyond crazy

Since they’re going to 24 team playoffs: they should have 12 regional conferences and 2 teams make it from each conference. Then the old sec could be what it was. No Missouri. No Texas schools. Texas schools can compete against each other (and against Oklahoma and Missouri?)

Awgusta,
Can’t you see that everything you typed is just your view. I understand what you are saying as I’ve been thru phases too when it comes to my interests but that doesn’t mean my view is held by everybody.

For example, when my kids were young and I had multiple soccer, baseball, and dancing events every Saturday I would say my interest in college football had lowered. Now, as I head into retirement, my interest is at an all time high because I have the time to invest and enjoy the sport.

I could say the same thing about other interests, but that’s a “me” issue and wasn’t a them issue. If you lose interest that’s a changing of your priorities but don’t blame the sport because you decided not to listen to podcasts.
