Some would. Most of these kids came to play for Bama, not Saban.

He’s headed to Florida when he retires and y’all will be in his rear view mirror. He will not care one bit what happens next.

I think winning #232 at Alabama is more of a goal than a 7th national championship. He’s about two years away from that.

The real question is, how many Bama fans decide to hit the transfer portal.

Bryce Young and Will Anderson both played against K- state last year in a meaningless bowl.

Bama is actually a program kids are proud to play for. It means something to them.

Laughable take. He’s spent over a quarter of his life here, donated millions to the University and additional millions to various causes in Tuscaloosa, and will likely have the stadium or field named after him at some point. The legacy he leaves behind has always been important to him.

He should make a run at the White House.

He should stay out of politics entirely, he’s a democrat and Alabama is so dumb they’d become a blue state because of that.

Oh I totally agree and then the problem gets even bigger. Who wants to be the next ray Perkins or bill curry.

If Saban actually wins the playoff, he will retire.

“ What are the chances he becomes the next AD for Bama? Or do you think he’d just fully retire?”

What is this 1982? ADs have a million times more responsibility than they did back in the day. Why would Saban want that headache for a lot less money?

You don’t think Bryant cared about what happened to his SCHOOL? What are you.. 35?
graduated AU the same year Bryant retired

shame he didn’t care enough about his University (not to mention Mary Harmon and their family) to quit drinking and smoking in, say, 1973 or so

He immediately retired because he said , “it’s what’s best for Alabama”.
and didn’t say a damn word when they hired Perkins over Stallings, whom was allegedly his preferred choice

A few more seasons and he’ll have 20 years at Bama. Didn’t see that coming. What a ride it’s been.

Depends on who the replacement is.

Agree. I mean he could surprise everyone, but I don't think he steps off the throne without a successor already at least in mind. I don't know who that would be at this time, and likely why he won't be hanging it up for a few more years at least.

Alabama can’t recruit the state exclusively and do well but the State of Alabama is way underrated when it comes to putting out top college ball players. We could do well staying in state.

a few years ago i would have dismissed this idea, figuring Saban would happily bow out and let the PTB fight it out who they would hire

but i've come around to this way of thinking - he's justifiably proud of what he's built and what happens after he leaves is important to him

another reason Saban >>>>>>> Bryant

It rarely works out, and who the heck could fill Saban's shoes anyway? Kirby maybe? Sark maybe if he continues to have success? Why would either of them leave Georgia or Texas?

There's probably going to be more parity amongst the big programs now anyway with NIL, and it's going to be really hard to have a run like Saban did pre-NIL. I mean to build the kind of depth he enjoyed for years on the bench and keep it is going to be tough with NIL and transfer portal.
Maybe they can find a coach to keep them very competitive, but not as dominating as Saban's run..
