It's time Auburn hires a real Auburn Man. They haven't had one of those in a while. I could also see them trying to poach Muschamp. Coach Dye seems to have a bizarre obsession with him for some reason.

It has to be someone young who could recruit well.

Auburn's gotten left in the dust in recruiting over the last 4-5 years. Offensive lineman and elite RB's especially.

We've got some good d-lineman but the secondary and linebacker play will be average at best.

Gus isn't getting fired this year. He will have a year that would normally be deserving of an extension but ...he already got that....if he doesnt...he has several million reasons why he wont be fired

I agree. It's hard as hell to can a good coach that recruits well, graduates his players, stays out of the ncaa spotlight, and represents the university with high character AND has a $26.6MM price tag for a buyout.

6 preseason top 15 teams, chief. Barring Joey Gatewood or Bo Nix having a heisman level first season, it isn't happening.

I would take Dino Babers over Kiffin.

So did they not want to fire him last year? Im pretty sure his buyout is the only thing that has him still there, and they were talking about paying that.

What are people's obsession with Lane Kiffin? The guy is just not a good coach and likely shouldn't get a shot at a program of Auburn's caliber ever again. Unless he pulls a Scott Frost level two or three years over at FAU, at least.

The fans wanted his arse run out on a rail. The President and the AD backed him and said he would remain HC at Auburn and "He is the Coach of the Future."

They talked about courting Bob Stoops, they talked about a Booster had the money on the table to pay the $31.7MM buyout. They talked about a Booster meeting with Gus in an effort to reduce his buyout and delegitimize his the contract that was less than a yr old at the time.

There's always a lot of talk were Gus is concerned, even by Gus himself. Who always promises to "turn this thing around", and he sees the "future is bright."

Gus will hold the Admin hostage again with threats of losing the recruiting class and the early signing period. He will back his play because he will say he's rebuilding with a great QB waiting in the wings to take over. He's a great salesman, there aren't many big SEC schools (UA/UGA/LSU/UF/aTm) that would keep him after he turned in 25 losses in 5 yrs.

Seems like FAU doesn't have near enough of a shitty schedule to pull a Scott Frost.

I hope they hire Sam Pittman from UGA. Without Sam, Kirby wouldn’t be shite.

Auburn might actually have a decent OL for once too.

Freeze would be the best fit but the sec office would have to okay it.

Ahem.

"If he has a great first season at USC that could mean big things. With his ability to recruit he could set himself up for greatness there."

With no insult intended to Auburn, which has a rich football history, if you can't build off a great first season at the University of Southern California then where can you? Why would it be easier to do so at Auburn then it would at USC where you can't walk down the street without passing by a dozen 5 star players?

Auburn recruits well but they are in a dogfight every year with Bama, Georgia, and every other SEC team when it comes to talent. USC is THE program for California (well it was before Kiffin helped to route it into Lake Michigan). He still tanked the program despite all those advantages.

Now, competing in a weak C-USA, he's fallen on his face after a great first season. What has he done that says he can create long term success without Nick Saban dragging him along?

If.

When Auburn goes 8-4 he's gone and there is no if about it.

They will lose to Oregon week 1 and then the ball will be rolling the rest of the season.
