The Auburn defense will keep Gus safe for another year.

The only thing I am hoping is that since Jacobs is gone, it won't have to be someone with former Auburn ties.

So you don't think Dell McGee is an option

Dangerous at Auburn or to Auburn?

2017 people were praising Kiffin for being a genius with how he turned around FAU. 2018 the Owls go 5-7 and the teams they did beat weren't exactly a murderer's row.

He kind of has an MO established. Be a great head coach that first season. Then a shaky second season. Then the wheels come off.

Both

Exactly. Maybe you squeeze a few good years out of him rather than just one.

Hard to see him getting poached for HC. I could easily see them trying to pick him up as OC but would depend on fit with the HC hire probably.

If he has a great first season at Auburn that could mean big things. With his ability to recruit he could set himself up for greatness there. You know he would call at Saban and rejuvenate Auburn rivalries

Alum that can recruit the best players and wouldn't cost an outrageous amount to hire. Doesn't sound like to bad of a hire

Not unlike what Auburn has right now. Except the wheels haven't completely fallen off the bus, although 2015 was crappy with a 6-6 team that landed in the B'ham bowl in Legion Field.

Not sure if you're disagreeing with me on the ~more likely as OC here or just continuing that line.

I definitely agree that they'd be silly to not consider him, but keep in mind that if you hire a HC that has an OC they'd want to bring with them for example, it might preclude the hire, and I don't see him leaving for a lateral move at this point. If the coach is offensively minded, but doesn't have a hand-picked OC in mind, he'd probably be my first call if I was them.

He and Saban would be at each other constantly. Would love it. The coaching personalities have gotten a bit stale.

He would automatically be required to be the HC at South Carolina.

Gus isn't getting fired this year. He will have a year that would normally be deserving of an extension but ...he already got that....if he doesnt...he has several million reasons why he wont be fired

Why would anyone hire Petrineo? During his time at Louisville, he did not have one player at his office or at his home. That’s fricked up.

Louisville is rebuilding mode

quote:

And then there were the little things. He was surprised to learn that many of Louisville’s players never had been upstairs to the coaches’ new offices (though it should be note, they haven’t been in their current configuration long, since the football facility expansion was only completed before the start of last season). “That blows my mind,” Satterfield said. “So the fact that we're having them over to our houses, and they're hanging out in our offices, that means a lot to them and to us. We’re with these guys every day, for a long period of time, and we want them to be able to trust us, and we want to be able to trust them. And you do that by having relationships. That's what it's all about.” Those kinds of things have been a revelation to the players, according to wide receiver Seth Dawkins. “In the four years that I’ve been here, I had never been to a coach’s house before,” Dawkins said. “Coach Satt invited us a few times within the first couple of months after he was hired. He opened his home to us, his family to us, and that meant a lot. He may not realize that, but it means a lot, especially to us older players. We just realized that we never had that sort of compassion before from a coach.”
