Almost any Bear Bryant team. Really sucks, but true. Have to be honest. As an LSU fan I hated him because he was so great. Then they get Nick Saban. Really, really sucks. They were probably the two greatest college coaches of all time. Sucks

2019 lsu was too shite on defense to be the best ever

2019 LSU's defensive struggles are WAY overblown on this board because of one or two bad performances.

When adjusted for opponent, they finished at #11 nationally.

For a comparison, #11 in 2025 was Georgia.

‘22 Georgia probably deserves a mention. They played one close game in the regular season and won a national title game by dang near 60 points.

I know that ‘08 Florida famously lost to Ole Miss in the Tebow speech game but from that point in the season on I thought that team was one of the best SEC teams I’ve ever seen.

It’s difficult to pick a specific Bama team because some of the most impressive teams they’ve had didn’t win it all, and then some of the teams that did win it all had moments of being fairly unimpressive. If you made me pick one Bama team, I’d probably go with 2011 as well simply because that whole season it was very apparent that it was Bama, LSU, and then everyone else a pretty big step behind. And they absolutely humiliated LSU in the championship.

2001 Miami roster was stacked, that’s a lot of all pros on one roster for an nfl team much less college. It’s not that close. Miami didn’t have weaknesses, the 20 lsu d was questionable. McGahee gore Davenport they’d have have a field day. LSU only shot would be a shootout where they got the ball last.

I'm sorry, my guy, but if you're trying to go for "best team of all time" you don't get to excuse bad performances. You are what your record says you are, and 2019 LSU's record says they were an elite offensive team coupled with an average (at best) defense.

How is #11 in the country in FEI defense, considered average (at best)?

ETA - I'm not arguing 2019 LSU was the best team ever, just that their defensive struggles are severely exaggerated.

You watched them play, just like I did. Make a case for them being an elite defensive team and I'll listen.

I don't think they were elite defensively but they were definitely very good.

People hang on to a bad game or two and trash the defense when it was actually very good, especially with the injuries in the first part of the year.

They were #11 in the country in opponent adjusted efficiency.

They faced 3 top 5 offenses, 4 top 10 offenses, and #11.
