Auburn 2004 dismantled everyone but defending National Champion LSU. None of the other games were competitive

The subject was expanded by some to include who was the greatest team of all time nationally, Others mentioned teams like that Neb team, 45 Army, 2001 Miami, maybe others.

They didn’t even play for the NC. 2004 USC was mentioned. AU had the misfortune of having been totally dominated on national TV at home by USC in 2003. Nobody wanted to see that again. USC was even better in 2004, blasted OU. IMO, AU was probably better than OU.
AU struggled with a bad Alabama team that year. Behind at half and won by one score. Pulled out a 1 point win vs LSU at JH by the skin of your teeth. Beat a decent but mundane 3 loss VT team in your bowl game. It was a very dull unimpressive effort. It was probably hard to get up for that one for you knew you were shut out of the NC hunt - probably unfairly.
