The point is that LSU has no in state/P5 program rival. Yes, the programs you mentioned are the only SEC programs in thier respective states - but florida for example - you have FSU and Miama, Aggie has UT, and to a lesser degree TxTech, TCU. UGA - GA Tech. Traditionally when that is brought up - the idea is that Louisiana is a very talent rich state - and if someone can come in, lock down the boarders, they have no instate comp for talent.

If Napier wants to be competitive to be Saban's replacement, he will need more than an excellent Sunbelt HC resume.
Which makes me think a lower-mid tier P5 gig (not Kansas level bad, but more like NC State) would be his next job.
One would think.
The mid level stable gig is the ideal if you've got a great resume at the lower level. If you win big at the mid level school then you'll be a top candidate for top jobs. If you keep it steady, major programs will hire you based on not crashing a larger program and success at the lower level.

Hugh Freeze should be on that list.
With the current off the field issues within LSU's athletic department, hiring Hugh Freeze would produce some really bad optics.

Imagine this scenario, for amusement purposes:
LSU hires Napier. Napier does well at LSU (maybe or maybe not a national title victory, but he is doing good and they are at least competing for a playoff spot most years/in the playoff most years once the playoff expands). Nick Saban retires. Alabama offers Napier the job. Napier takes the Alabama job and leaves LSU.
Can you imagine what Tigerdroppings and SECRant would be like? The place would crash. They'd have to hire a hazardous waste containment force to contain the melt of the LSU fanbase.
Sorry, LSU fans, but it is funny to imagine.

6. Kevin Sumlin. Checks all the right DEI boxes for the University president.

Again, he wasn't claiming the exclusivity of that scenario.
He was saying the LSU is a desirable job because the state of Louisiana produces a lot of talent, and that LSU is the only SEC school in the state.
That's it.
That statement does not imply that Georgia is NOT a desirable job, for similar reasons. Or Texas. Or Florida.
It's just an affirmative statement that LSU is a desirable job for the reason he listed.

LSU is not just the only SEC school in La, it's the only program even remotely P5, and they've been able to keep the state on lockdown. Bama can cherry-pick a bit of talent, but it's not like Georgia, which is a free-for-all with half the SEC, and a good bit of ACC teams drawing players every year.
If O is gone, I could see either a big splash, or Napier. Either way, you have a proven program guy (Napier is, just not at this level). We need a program.
I don't see a hire with any red flags, so I'd exclude Kiffin, Briles, and Freeze. I don't know the splash-type guy they could get, so I really think it would be Napier.
He refused Auburn; that's a bold move. I think he did that for this reason.

Anyone know what the deal with Jamey chadwell is?
Curious on why he didn’t get a step up after last season

Jeff Traylor would absolutely crush it at LSU. That is the 1 guy that I hope they don’t hire.

Coley wouldn’t be running the offense in this situation. It would be Brady’s offense with Coley recruiting the talent.

Nah he is still radioactive in the SEC, it will take someone like Vandy that wants to become relevant in SEC football to take that chance, than an established team. Too much risk there

They should hire Bert. Would be epic. He’d probably end up having decent success.
