I dunno about that. Baylor is at 14 and playing Kansas this week. If Bama wins the Iron Bowl they’ll have an utterly massive lead on Baylor

If conference championships meant so much then the playoff would only be for conference champs. But, that's not the case because the playoff committee looks at conference championships and other factors. I believe this is due to the power of the SEC and to a lesser degree the Big 10. You all can argue all you want but it's very likely if it comes down to Bama and Utah, Bama will be in the playoff and Utah will not.

You don't. Bama's not making it over a one-loss conference champion. They need Oregon to beat Utah in the Pac 12 Conference Championship Game, OU to lose Bedlam next week and then beat Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game. If all of those dominoes don't fall, they're done.

Bama doesn't need all this to happen. If Bama beats Auburn and LSU wins out including beating UGA Bama is in the playoff.

I agree about a huge conference championship "bump' being a lot more people's opinions than based on actual evidence from the committee.

However, I am not sure that Oklahoma and maybe Baylor are that out of competition for the 4th spot even if Utah, Alabama and LSU win out.

One can certainly see that the committee is not high on Oklahoma right now due to close calls and a loss vs too many 5-6 win type teams.

However, they don't have to play anymore of those type teams and impressive wins @ Top25 Oklahoma St and against Baylor could certainly provide them with a big bump.

how much you wanna bet?

90% of teams that have ever made the playoffs have won their conference. If that doesn't show you that the committee places a massive emphasis on it then I don't know what else can be said. The 10% of teams to make it without winning a conference did so because P5 champions had 2 losses.

Why not let the committee come up with the four?
As a Bama fan I’m good with their choice.

Don't worry about answers in this thread.
No LSU fan demanding "only conference champions should be considered" won't commit to being ok with a potential 13-1 LSU losing to UGA and a potential 2-3 loss Oregon, Baylor etc. winning their conference championship and relegating the Bayou Bengals to the Orange Bowl against a Virginia.

Who do you think wins on a neutral field? The better team should get in.

If Bama gets in it’s because of “The Eye Test”

That is going to hurt Bama in the eye test.
