And you turn out to be wrong, Pruitt will coach the playoffs.

What a shocker. The guy talking all the shite is the guy who doesn't know what he's talking about. Never saw that coming.

Tennessee still hammering out final details with Jeremy Pruitt, but both sides expect him to be officially announced as the Vols' head coach on Thursday. I'm also told the plan is for him to pull double duty and stay on as Alabama's DC through the College Football Playoff.

I've got nothing against Pruitt for taking the UT job but I'm not for this "double duty" crap. I would rather him just say his goodbyes.

That is impossible to do either job to the best of your ability.

Perhaps, but it's exactly what ever other coach in this situation has done. He would have been the first to leave.

Results for them so far:

Tom Herman: National Title.
Kirby Smart: National Title.
Lane Kiffin: Fired before NCG, lost NT.
Pruitt: ???

So thus far, the only loss has come when the coordinator was fired/removed/left.

Not that there is a big sample size here.

I think that’s a good thing. I wasn’t arguing he shouldn’t stay, I was merely saying it wasn’t unreasonable for UT to ask him to start now. If the man gets to finish what he started with UA and Tennessee is okay with that, that’s wonderful.

Oh yeah, how old are you?

Maybe if you weren't trying to compare bowl games to playoff games to start with like I said...

Is wanting a coach to finish the job he started before he goes to his next job to much to ask these days?

See your point, but Tennessee has been without a true coach now for close to 3-4 weeks . That means recruiting is up in the air.....Fulmer needs Pruitt, on the ground , dolling out the $$$$$ to the recruits and their families NOW. Starting it Jan. 9 is too late

I didn’t bring up the age thing first, muchacho.

There you go again. Makes zero difference if your new daddy insists it’s time for you to start immediately. Thankfully for you guys, Fulmer and UT aren’t being petty about it. You should give your rival credit for that.

Most of the time coordinators that get a new job will finish out the season with their old team even if it's just a mediocre bowl game.

Yeah, and that worked out so well for LSU in 2014 against ND, huh?

If Alabama was going to a bowl game instead of the playoffs, Pruitt wouldn't coach another day at Alabama.

Not a single coach has left before the playoffs without being pushed.

You either understand that or you don't.

You have three examples of that, brother. UT is letting Pruitt do this out of decency, not that they are holding to some sacred precedent. It’s great that those two parties were able to work it out amicably. I hope it works out great for all parties involved.

I really doubt UT or Fulmer is doing it out of decency. I'm sure Pruitt realized the negotiating position he was in, once UT offered him the job and it hit the media. Pruitt had the power position then, because UT/Fulmer couldn't take another hiring failure.

Take it easy. Now you have a built in excuse if you lose.

That is every example since the playoffs have been around.

As I said, if Pruitt left early it would be the first time.

You do realize it's a bad look for them to split with the ultimate goal for the season on the line right?

Not to mention an opportunity he may never get again in his life, for the team he played on top of that.

The early signing period this year, for the first time, changes the dynamics. Without it, I think Pruitt tells UT to wait until after the CFP.

Playoff games are much more important than regular bowl games. The early signing period adds to the dilema.

It seems to me that Pruitt doing double duty is the right thing and probably the best thing for all parties concerned.

a. UT has very little leverage to insist that he not coach in the CFPs. And, it's actually in UT's best interest for him to do so.

b. UT & Pruitt will get positive publicity. Pruitt doing what's right by not abandoning the players at UA will benefit Pruitt and UT in recruiting.

c. With help from Fulmer, UA CoDC Lupoi and Saban, Pruitt should be able to handle hiring his UT staff, early signing period recruiting at UT, and then playoff coaching at UA. Then he goes to UT for the recruiting home stretch. The timing works out fairly well. He's already hired most of his on-field coaching staff.

d. Pruitt has plenty of incentive to do a good job both for UT and for Bama. He doesn't want any bad-look baggage, damage to his relationship with Saban or burned bridges.

There is no ideal solution, but the approach being taken seems to make the most sense.

I wonder what the blowback is if one of Alabama's commits were to flip to Tenn and sign early?

This is a tough call either way.

I think Pruitt will do his best as DC for Alabama. But the recruiting aspect could lead to some unpleasant issues. Hopefully it does not happen.

Honestly though, I never think Alabama fans should worry too much about the defense as long as Saban is around.
