Tenn. is a school I have been surprised has been down so long. Great program - great history etc... I naver knew what happened over there. Whats the story and where are they in the rebuild?

I kinda felt like Dooly was an expendable hire - meaning would start some positive change - probably leave school in better place but that Tenn. would fire him and then start the real move.

Whats the story over in Tenn. what are yall thinking? Like I said your recruiting looks to real good.

You can read all about it on the SEC recruiting board.

Dooley just had no clue on how to run a program and it crippled them. I dont think that Butch Jones is going to be the one to get them back in competing with UGA and Florida on a regular basis but he will land some solid recruits and win some games.

He would be scary as a OC in college. He already is OC for the Bronco's.

This is a football question about Tenn. program. Just because it has the word recruiting doesnt make it about recruiting. Im just wondering where Tenn. is in the rebuild is their minds as well as others.

Can someone explain what Butch Jones is selling?

Buckeye_in_SEC_... on 14 Mar 2013 - 8:52am #

He is selling tradition. The spring practices and facilities have been loaded with former UT players hanging around. They also have a brand new $42 million dollar training facility that is unbelievable. You can also look at their roster and understand that there is early playing time up for grabs if you work hard. College football goes in ups and downs. UT is on the way back up... In recruiting... They'll have to produce on the field..

Optimistic Buck... on 14 Mar 2013 - 8:57am #

Not just that, but all of that IN THE SEC.

I understand the pull for playing for a hometown team and I guess my original post was less about Hurd and Kelly Jr. and more about hearing UT being thrown around by a bunch of recruits this year. To me it is turning into the Ole Miss of this year.

As to your point about it not being about the past 10 years, I have to disagree some. For many of us, we can remember UT being relevant. But these kids are 17-18 years old which means they were 3-ish years old when UT won a National Championship and 7-8 years old away from when they were competitive on a yearly basis. It is the same way we look at a lot of other programs (especially in the B1G).

UT has plenty to sell IMO, but things can change in a hurry. Better show some life on the field.

I was always under the impression that UT was very dependent on recruiting out of state talent because if they had to rely solely on players from Tenn, then they'd struggle. Therefore, if the Carolina schools, UGA, and Bama/AU hold onto their state players, then UT will find it tough sledding. The only hotbed of talent in that state is Memphis and its closer to 5 SEC schools.

That's my theory at least.
